I've been reading this story since I was just out of High School, when "The Gunslinger" came out. I've waited, for years sometimes, for the next part of the story. I have read the DT books, and ALL of S.K.'s books, over and over again. (I'm on my 4th copy of "the Stand" cuz I've read it so many times I messed up the covers. Seriously. I'm one of those freaks of nature who can read extremely fast. I mean, like mad-crazy, lightening-quick kind of fast.) So I run out of books quickly. Therefore I read my favorites repeatedly. Most of Mr. Kings books seem to fall on that list. (If the man wrote labels on ketchup bottles, I'd read those!) After I collected all 7 books, I read the whole series over again at least 30 times. (OK, maybe more.) I have had dreams that take place in Midworld, for God's sake! Not in an unhealthy way, but this story has been in my head since I was a kid! When I was in High School, I got the lead in the school play; it was the first time I was ever in any stage production, so on closing night, when we all met at the cast party, I was completely blindsided by feelings of conclusion and loss when I realized that the work and all these people that I had come to love...was just over. And while I had great memories of my time with my castmates, I would probably never see them again. Very bittersweet experience. THIS is how I felt after closing that 7th book of the Dark Tower series. Weird or not, this story had become part of my life for 25 years! I just missed being killed once when I was scuba diving by an oil rig off Newport Beach, when some idiot wasn't looking where he was going and almost ran me down with his boat. I had to dive like hell as he zoomed by directly above me. One of the first things that popped into my head after I realized I wasn't dead was "Oh, thank God! I can't die till I know the end of the Dark Tower story!" How weird is that? Seriously, how many writers are there that can have that kind of effect on your life? For that long? I don't know of many. So, thank you, Mr King, for 30 years of bouncing through Midworld with you. It's been a hell of a ride! I eagerly anticipate each new book...but, as I read pretty damn fast, could you maybe pick up the pace? :) A Constant Reader.

Just finished the series last night. An epic journey concluded, say thank ya. I thought the ending was amazing because if presents the reader with the same choice that ultimately faces Roland, and like Roland, I could not resist going through the door at the top of the tower.

I just finished the last part of the serie, what a journey! This has been the best, most interesting serie I've ever read and altough some people criticized the ending, I wasn't disappointed at all. It is remarkable how the author tied all the little (and big) things together, making a story I just couldn't put down until it was finished. It has been translated to my language as well, but I read it in english. I recommend reading it in english if you can, because many things may be lost in translation. Besides this I've only read one other book from mr.King, "The Stand", which was also a masterpiece. I will most certainly read as many of his other books as I can. Thank you.

Just finished the DT last night. It's been a long time coming to this point. This was my 3rd attempt at starting the series, the last being 3 years ago and all this time it was because I couldn't make it more than 100 pages through the Gunslinger. This time I pushed through it. Once, I got to the Drawing of the Three it really picked up and I couldn't put it down. This is by far the best series I've read and as a whole is my new favorite SK work. **SPOILER ALERT** (if you haven't finished) The ending. Everyone talks about it and whether they love or hate it. Honestly, once I came to the end I thought it ended with him just entering the tower and I was just heartbroken. But once I started Coda: Found at the end I was lile okay this is better. What was behind the door threw me off and I didn't expect it. After all that time and he finally reaches the top of the tower and finds that is overwhelming. But, it was the best way to end it. I feel that he ultimately reached his destination but he had changed from a heartless person that would use anyone that came in contact with him and throw them aside if they stood in the path of his tower to a person that was caring and had emotions. Susannah thoughts said it all towards the end that she had seen so much from him and yet there was still no bottom to him. Roland was a great character and I would read anything about him and his path. SK has a way of making you get lost in the story and the characters and it pulled on my heartstrings when the ka-tet was broken and those he had grown to love were gone. I almost didn't want it to end. Guess I will be reading it again in the future. Long days and pleasant nights. Thankee sai King

i read this when it came out, and am doing so again this week, Ah, the ending...people can whine about it all they like, but the genius of it is that it's still open-ended. given the mid-quel coming later this month, who knows...sk may do another book that revisits the tower itself. i think the key setup was in book 3, when blaine makes the comment about way-gog music on the upper level of the tower. the disconnect is the expectation that there must be more going on and more levels and more floorspace than Roland gets to experience in book 7. because he doesn't have the horn? because he's rushing through the thing like a teenager trying to lose his virginity at the drive-in? perhaps. again, sk put himself in a perfect position...it's finished. or it can be picked up again. how can you argue with that? speaking as a former governor of a french-canadian republic on the verge of economic collapse (i'm not, but i like to), I'd say more on the great old ones and they're gadgets, and according to an early review of the new book, there's some of that and something for everyone. i say rock on steve...we're with ya buddy.

I just finished reading the entire series, beginning to end, some volumes for the second time because after so many years all I could remember was there was a man something about a tower and somewhere along the way something about a train. I was warned by a few I would want to throw the book against the wall when I got to the end, a thought that kept running through my head as I went past the "and they lived" potential ending the entire time wondering what could possibly happen to Roland that could make me angry or take anything away from this story I had been reading EVERY SINGLE free moment of every day for the last month or so. I liked the end. Where else was there for him to go? Death? New York? And there's the horn...hope. These books took me through a crazy mixture of emotions from beginning to end, there were moments I loved, moments I hated, moments I wished it would never end, many when I thought it never would, and moments that broke my heart. I loved the characters, felt for them, felt like I knew them even Oy tugged at my heart strings. I read the ending despite the warnings because after all that time with them I had to know. Even if I hadn't liked the ending I loved the story. I loved the way it was told, I loved the way I got to watch Roland change and grow and become so much more than he was in the beginning and it broke my heart to to see what awaited him on the other side of the door. But there was the horn. In my opinion King's best.

The Dark Tower series is like nothing else i have ever experienced in my life. Everything ive read by The King i have just completely fallen in love with. For instance when one of the characters is killed in one of his stories, a little piece of me dies haha. The ending was perfect but i never wanted to get there, i just wanted to keep reading and reading. Also, just my opinion, but i would never want to see the dark tower made into a mini series or any film, i feel it would take away all the magic of the ka-tet and mid-world in the constant readers imaginations. Thankee Sai King!

Honestly, I loved the entire series and laughed at the end. When so many of my friends threw their books at the wall out of anger at the ending, I laughed. I thought it was a new and interesting way to end the long quest that Roland went on. Dark Tower series is now my favorite above The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

I agree that the best part of the story is the journey itself, yet, this story lives on in my imagination because of the ending. I feel that the ending is beautifully poetic and stays true to ka. This world has the feeling of a vastness that is cosmic. I enjoyed the entire series! Thankee Sai!

I think that the ending was perfect. It is the most realistic ending of a real-life story. It wasn't a fairy-tale ending because this was not a fairy tale by ANY means. This is undoubtedly the best series I have ever read. Thankee Sai!

i think these books are the best i have ever read!! SK pulls you in and does not let you go with not only the extreamly amazing plot but with characters that you dream of! I do not care what anyone says about the end of the story it think it is brilliant! give the man a chance to try again, maybe ka will not kill everyone he loves! i really just wish that i was not done yet.... or maybe i wish he would make book number 8 to join roland in another adventure would be great i would follow him anywhere! Thankee Sai!! LOVE IT

Just finished the series and I have to say it was the most amazing and enveloping story I've ever read. It drew me in and I was enthralled with the character and plot depth. In short - I loved it!! Can't wait to read Book 8...but can't for the life of me figure out what the heck it would be about?!?!

Say what you will about the ending. I think it is brilliantly conceived and epic in it's structure. Stephen King's characters are so memorable and complicated that no matter where he takes them I am along for the ride with no judgement on where the story goes. I love how organic the series feels and that it's SO outside the box. King doesn't write for plot, he writes for the journey. To live in the present, not the future. It's KA

Has this series imploded in on itself? I think there should be something called the fifth wall, where if the writer writes to and for himself, he is breaking it. And it's bad form.

I enjoyed reading the series. But I found it too sad that everyone in the ka-tet died except Roland. Then there's a twist that Susannah meets Eddie and Jake in an alternate universe where they are brothers. Nobody remembers meeting Roland at all. Then when Roland goes in to the tower, he falls through a portal and ends up back in the desert he started at, brainwashed of everything that happened. What kind of book ends like that? It could have been a better ending if you ask me. It leaves the reader with too many questions and no real answers.

I finished this one yesterday. First let me just thank you for this awesome journey that is the Dark Tower series. It took me 3 months to read the entire story but it was worth every second. The only thing is is about the first 2 pages of the Coda. It wasnt just Roland and his ka-tet that went on this epic journey it was also the multitude of people that read this series simply known as "Constant Reader", OF COURSE WE WOULD WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO ROLAND WHEN HE ENTERED THE DARK TOWER! Great plot twist at the end, but also kinda cruel at the same time. But again thank you so much for this series.

This series kept me in entranced the entire time. I absolutely loved almost every aspect, save one: Stephen King including himself in the storyline. It... it seemed like he didn't know how that leaving himself out of the storyline would have made the world he created exclusive unto itself and free from the bounds of a Word Slinger. Oi.

Very nicely done. I thoroughly enjoyed the Dark Tower series, and have subsequently begun to follow your other works pertaining to the series. I do have to say that there are a couple parts of the series that i couldn't jive with completely, and i'm not entirely happy with the ending of the Dark Tower. I understand your feelings regarding endings, being an aspiring writer myself, and can thus understand why you wrote it in such a way (or were you just the channel for Gan's story all along?) All in all, the series is epic and so is the ending. I greatly enjoy your work. Thank you.

I'm kinda new to SK (2 years listening to audiobooks) and have done the entire 7 DT series 5 times. I can not believe what a GREAT journey this is. I have talked many of my friends into reading or listeneing to it and all have become totally lost in the story. I can't thank SK enough for this story. Although I have done about 50 audiobooks over the 2 years, none I have listened to (by any author) can measure up. Unreal story.

This is (the whole series) one of my top 3 works I've ever read. I don't have words to describe it and took me into a world I'll never forget. It caused laughter, fear, suspense, adrenaline, crying and many other feelings. I actually couldn't stop crying in the end with Oy . Those mixed feelings kept me thinking and chewing this ending for that whole day. And I just LOVED IT. As I loved all the ka-tet.

When I finished reading the Dark Tower series, I was in a state of shock and awe. I should have figured a master storyteller like SK would have a twist to end the tale of Roland and his Ka-Tet. I have friends who had read the series before me and told me I would hate the ending, but in truth I loved it, Ka is a wheel, as Roland would say and would love to see the whole series made into a mini-series for tv or a movie series for the big screen. I for one would watch every minute of it.

When I first started reading this series, a friend of mine who had already read the series told me that I would absolutely HATE the ending. He wouldn't tell me why I would hate it so of course i speedily finished them. When I actually did finish them and he asked me how much I hated it, I told him that I actually really liked it! I think the ending went the way it was supposed to, and if it had ended any other way, I think it would have felt wrong. Oh and I finished the last book on 9/19/09. If you rearrange that you get 1999. I see 19 everywhere now. :)

Mr. King has an uncanny ability to make me weep. I stayed up late last night I and finished the fifth book. I even read the authors note. When I got to "Coda" I considered what Mr. King said, to not read any further, to let the story lie and to let my imagination take over. Perhaps I should have done that because my heart was so heavy after wards. But I had to know if my wish was just the possible answer. But Roland is a gunslinger, and such a thought will never be true.

Of course.. *SPOILERS* I like to think that Roland does not reach the *real* Dark tower (if, indeed, there is such a thing). The only way he will "reach" it is when he stops looking for it and starts caring more about the people he loves than his damned tower. I just finished "Duma Key" last night (Loved it, but then I love them all.I'm one of those "constant reader") and I think the last "How to draw a picture (XII)" resumed this extremely well: "Know when you're finished, and when you are, put your pencil or your paintbrush down. All the rest is only life." Truer words have never been spoken.

Me and my father were hooked on this series and I know that I, at least, still am. Roland's story was just so fascinating and I especially enjoyed learning about his unfortunate past in Wizard and Glass; it kept me going last summer when I had salmanela poisoning! However when I went out to buy the last book in The Dark Tower series, a boy and his friend were dicussing the book and I overheard the ending! I was distraught; despite already knowing the conclusion I really enjoyed the book and was so sad to have to, in a way, leave Roland.

I have been waiting the better part of twenty years for this epic to be completed. Being the cheap bastard that I am I would typically have waited for the paperback to come out. Not this time. I did nothing, loathing even to rise to visit the washroom until I had finished it. At first I was dissapointed with the ending. Later I went back and re-read the whole series, feeling I had missed something in the intervening years. I had. I came to realize as I finished The Dark Tower for the second time than this ending was not a cop-out; it is not a compromise or a money-grab for future sequels (these thoughts crossed my mind and were discussed at length). This ending is perfect. It is absolutely perfect. I salute you, Steve. I imagine this eventuality was already concieved back when The Gunslinger was being beaten out of the old Underwood.

Wow. I just finished The Dark Tower. Absolutely brilliant. I was pleasantly suprised at some of the choice words used toward the end. I heard from more than one individual, on more than one occasion, that the ending to the long series was dissapointing. I tried to explain that it's not about the ending, it's the journey. When I read almost these exact words in the actual novel, I was suprised to say the least. Anyone who tells me they've read this series and didn't enjoy the journey to the end, has absolutely no idea what a good story is. I use the word good loosely. More like genius. I got sucked into mid-world head first, and developed such a love for every character, (most of all Eddie Dean, his personality was most like mine). Of all the long series I've read, Dark Tower takes the cake so to speak. Brilliant in every way, (Yes, even the ending). Congrats to Stephen King on his finest works.

I finished DT VII a couple of days ago, and yes, the ending caught me by surpise. As the type of reader who never cheats and flips to the final pages - (the pleasure is in the journey to the resolution, although the climax is always to be savoured) - I had notions that Roland would be left in-situ as the guardian of the tower, or would step out of a door and into a harmonious world in which he could retire gracefully, having put things in place behind him to protect the Tower for enternity. On reflection, the ending is the only appropriate ending - because throughout the whole work it is fundamental that 'ka' is a wheel. If seven further volumes were to be written, then I am sure they would take Roland through several different but very relevent worlds - where his possession of the 'Horn of Eld' adds a constant significance, and back to the Tower when that wheel has clicked through one full revolution. Perhaps there he would find something to add to the Horn of Eld, before stepping back into the desert in pursuit of the Man in Black. From the here and now to the day that Mr King decides to put down his quill pen forever, could there be another twelve volumes, bringing the completed opus to '19' volumes? I am sure Mr. King would beg to differ, but if it is 'Ka', then you just never know! Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. Anyhow, thanks for an immensely enjoyable and entertaining journey, and for a most appropriate ending. Mitch - London, England.

This story will grip you from start to finish. I love the old 'gunslinger' in this story. His love for 'the tower' is unbelieveable; and his way aren't always clear. If you like westerns-with a crazy twist, of course- you'll love this series.

I started years ago the Dark Tower Series and put it down, this year I read all SEVEN!!!!!!!! I just couldn't get enough. I have enjoyed each one. I have enjoyed the ka-tet and their character along the road to the Tower. The stories within the stories could be movies unto themselves. I for one would love a mini-series movie on these, but I do agree it would have to be by someone who would not CUT or redirect any outcome. I had hope for a different ending as some would say, but it blew my mind!! I knew Roland had to save the world/universe by saving the Tower. I love the fact that Eddie, Jack and Susannah are back together and yes, I would of like Oy to be with them (sniff sniff). Congratulations Mr. King!!! Love the way you are bound to this, literally!

I must say that Stephen King truly created and finished his opus magnificently! I realise alot of people were pissed about the ending but to me it works in with Stephen's style and was perfect. I'm just trying to get my hand on the graphic novels to fill the gaps, bit hard in country NSW Australia.

i thought the ending of the dark tower was absolutely genius. it was a twist that i should have seen coming but did not and i have to say bravo mr king for that. i love the way that roland is caught in a paradoxical loop. roland saves the dark tower and in essence saves the entire universe, but his curse is the eternal nature of this task that he must perform over and over again for eternity. he is like atlas holding the world aloft and as long as he is reliving his quest throughout the ages then the universe is safe. beautiful

The final ending of the novel sorta pissed me off. I also wish he would have gone into more of what happened before the story. Like how thunderclap came to be. And some of The Dark Man/Marten/Randal Flag's past adventures. And what The Crimson King REALY is. And (most of all) how Patrick Danville-I think thats his name-fits into all of this. Also, the Sombra Corp. and Nort-Central Positronics intrigues me. How do they fit into Roland's world. And for that matter, why isn't the Tet Corp. mentioned in Roland's world if the other two are? As the comercial goes "The World May Never Know"

Praise the king for finally finishing up this masterful series. This was the only book that made me want to cry, when my homeboy Eddie Dean died it was like the end of the world for me. I thought it was cool how he entered the door marked Roland at the end and came full circle to the opening of the first book. It leaves me to wonder if he is going to live forever constantly running loops to guard the tower from ol EEEEEEE! Crimson King. And on a personal note, thanks for the marvelous villain Mordred, but damn you for killing Oy! I was cheering for him to survive (yeah, I love animals more than people) Anyway, thanks a million for this series. :D

It was a sad day, as I'm sure it was for Mr. King, when I finished reading this series. Yet, I found that this book - and the series in totality - were all you could possibly ask for as a reader. I left this book in amazement that such deep, dark, true, consistent characters could be crafted. I only hope that a movie maker doesn't butcher the series, and if it does end up in the hands of Hollywood, that it is given the respect it deserves by a director who has read, and understood the depth of the Dark Tower books.

I could not wait for this book to come out, and while I was shocked by the ending I was definitely not disappointed. I love the entire Dark Tower Series and recommend them to anyone.

Took me a few months to read all 7 books. It was the best reading 'journey' i 've ever had. The Dark Tower kept me reading more and more, wanting to know what happens next. The ending was PERFECT and i was sad there was no more to read.
