...see if the Benadryl has any effect...make sure she isn't running a fever, nauseous-that there is no numbness or tingling in the hand, if it's red or there's drainage around the bite marks, then it's infected, also if there is any streaking up into the wrist and forearm area...however, if it happened Friday, and you haven't observed any of these hallmark signs, and thank goodness-she hasn't fallen ill-it sounds like a localized reaction to the bites...just keep a close eye on them...and if a couple of doses of antihistamine don't do the trick-she will need checked on by a Doc...

I found these on the net.

"A1 steak sauce on the mosquito bite will get rid of the itching and make it go away faster.

Bayer Asprin (only if your not allergic!) wet the tablet and put it over the bite. it will lessen the inflamation

Preparation H reduces swelling
Neosporing helps heal faster if the bite is broken open
Ice cubes prevent swelling.

Cortaid or regular Crest toothpaste -apply on the bite and cover with a bandaid. swelling should go down in a day or so (also works for acne)

Phillips Milk of Magnesia or Visine Eye drops reduces redness

Vicks Vapor Rub dries up any insect secretions still in your skin making it itch or red

Hope some of these help!!! good luck!

Not that it matters at this point (sure everything's fine by now), but I was in, on, and around the coastal water a lot when I was younger.

Two friends (at different times) got Portuguese-Man-O-Warred. Luckily small ones, but you couldn't have told by the screams.

Vinegar is supposed to work.
We didn't have any vinegar.
We pissed on our friends.
It worked.

Kat was over to her other grandmother's house last Friday, and got 2 bug bites on one of her hands. It is now swollen. Any advice of what to do, besides taking her to a doctor.
Ouch! - poor kid - sorry to hear about it - calamine lotion is also good for insect stings/bites and/or rashes

I hope it is nothing serious - up here where I live I am pretty sure we don't have any of those brown recluse spiders. Was she outside? Does her other Grandma have any clue as to how it happened?

She was outside, Neesy. Her other grandmother doesn't know what planet this is, let alone what happened. Someone at Karen's church told her about calamine lotion, so Karen picked some up on the way home.
She is going to try the vicks vaporub tonight before she goes to bed.
I also remember the baking soda mixture when I was a kid.
Byran, I have heard of that before! I saw something on TV about it not long ago.

Seems likely to me that its was the same insect, so it wasn't a bee (a bee dies after it stings). Since she hasn't had a more serious reaction than swelling in the hand, then she seems not at risk for an anaphylactic reaction - one that would show an obvious, immediate need for 911; though, the swelling does suggest an allergy to whichever critter bitter (I suspect mosquito), since such swelling usually only occurs via allergy.

As Scott and others have said, continue to observe the hand for worsened swelling, redness, and pain. Wash site frequently considering a child's activity. Use a topical antibiotic creme or ointment - generic Neosporin is sufficient at this point, or something better such as Bactroban (which unfortunately is not over the counter, yet) - and continue applying the Benadryl. If symptoms worsen don't hesitate to see a doc, including an ER doc, though I'm assuming ER won't be necessary in this case.

Keep us posted!

Chop off the hand.

No, don't that it.

I'm just a little more retart than usual after finishing a good short story. The glow of "DONE!"

After that I need to polish it, and I might actually touch the story up a bit, too.

Hope everything's fine with the little girl. Solid recos from all the cool folks here.

 - A friend of mine got stung by a jelly fish. I wanted to try that, but alas, I have the wrong equipment to make that work.

She believes in all that voodoo crap. My son-in-law says that is why there is a ghost in their house because of some sh!t she did there.
I told Karen not to let her do anything to Kat!

She conjured a ghost? Holy wow. Be careful of that one.

Send THAT to Mythbusters and see what they do with it. They've done other remedies for Jellyfish stings, vodka, orange juice, vinegar. I wonder if they'd find a way to test that theory.

As others have said, sounds like an allergic reaction.

I have an allergy to mosquito bites. When I get bitten by a mosquito the bites swell up to 3 or 4 times the size of a normal bite. Used to be worse when I was a kid. I got a bite on my face when I was 5 or 6 that swelled the skin under my eye to the size of a golf ball :(

Benadryl, Calamine Lotion, and Witch Hazel used to work pretty well for me.
