The llareta is an alien-looking plant that grows in the Andes, in very dry conditions, between 10,000 and 15,000 feet. "Grow" is almost an exaggeration. Because of the harsh conditions, it grows at the rate of about a meter every century. And you thought your house plant was being slow. It's quite green and might look like a blob of Jell-O but it's actually quite hard and tough.

Because it grows so slowly, some llareta plants that you see may be 3,000 years old, or older. Older than the giant California sequoias. When the Kingdom of Israel was being established, when the Zhou Dynasty was coming into being, before the Age of Pericles, some of the plants we see today had started growing.

And because it's such a dry and arid place, the plant is dry as well, so it's quite combustible and is used to start fires. Imagine a plant that's been growing for three millennia plucked out and tossed into a fire pit to allow for the night's cooking and a little temporary warmth.

No man-made structures can be seen from space...............

Well, that would depend on the resolution, right?

And frankly, there's not a lot of challenge from space in seeing humans' influence.

I should have qualified that with, "with the naked eye." ;)

Light (pollution) is definitely visible, but not as the result of a singular structure.

The bizarre appearance of this egg-laying, venomous, duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed mammal baffled European naturalists when they first encountered it, with some considering it an elaborate fraud. It is one of the few venomous mammals, the male platypus having a spur on the hind foot that delivers a venom capable of causing severe pain to humans.

...Prison science fact: you can make a deadly "shank" from a Styrofoam cup....find a heat source, and as the cup melts, mold it into the shape of a knife blade, and when it cools-it will be solid and sharp enough to inflict a killing wound....yeah, I work in a strange environment....
