Feel bad for that poor gal on the England team.
Brutal.
Yep, gutted for her. But on the positive side, that's the best performance from an England Women's team in any World Cup (true, there've not been many as it's still a young and growing area of the sport...though the first men's World Cup didn't take place for 40-50 years after the formation of the English FA among others, and even then hardly anyone too part (well...England didn't; not until after WW2, iirc)).
There's a lot of stuff over here about them having 'joined' the 1966 (winners) and 1990 (World Cup semis) club, but I disagree. These women are out on their own. They've made history by themselves, for themselves, and now have their own 'club' - just as the men would insist on having if the situation were reversed. So no riding on the coat-tails of their success for the underachieving (and usually underwhelming) men's team, please.
EDIT: Although, I thought there was a hint of offside as the Japanese winger tried to make the pass beyond the full-back. Their striker seemed to be goal-side of the last centre-half at the moment the ball was played.
Their pen also seemed to be a case of first contact outside the box, while ours...well, it was very soft. Minimal contact at best and she decided to hit the deck fractionally too long after it was made. Don't suppose she actually was the sub?
