Got part of the neighbor's roof shoveled...maybe a third...back out in a minute. Cold wind blowing. Got up on it for a bit, decided that wasn't wise, and have been trying to take it off with a rake. But it's compacted so down low...on top there's a lot of fluff but it's the compacted snow that will do the damage. My electrical meter and gas meter should be okay now...didn't get it right to the top...but some off is better than leaving it as is. I'd put some 6x6 treated posts in front of the meters to protect them...a few more down the line of the house. The posts have been in place for years and the way the snow comes off his roof varies winter by winter. Usually, some of it has slid off by now...but ALL our snow is hanging up there on it this season. Not good. Tiring work.

I'm surprised they allow studded tires in other parts of the country. I don't believe they are acceptable here in Michigan anymore...have had to watch my driving as the tires are okay for one more winter, but they're not like you can rush anywhere.

We can't put them on before October 1st and they have to be removed by May 1st. It looks like Michigan doesn't allow them because there aren't any manufacturers that make ones they can guarantee won't cause damage to roads.

Bitter cold, windy and white! Finally done shoveling the walkway and driveway, and starting to get the feeling back in my face and fingers. Some drifts were almost 2 feet high. Why the gov't stopped funding farmers for putting up snow fences is beyond me.

I hear you on that one! Seems to me it would be a lot less expensive than having to plow as often because the road fills up with drifting snow. They stopped doing it at least 15 years ago here and there's one stretch of road I have to take to get back/forth to my house from Bangor that gets barely passable and I drive through white-knuckling and holding my breath. :(

They stopped doing it hear about the same time. I have a few friends who are local farmers. They said it costed the government almost nothing to do it besides supplying the fencing, as they paid the farmers very little to do it.

I did not even know they had snow fences, I never saw one in PA. Snowed here last night, about 6-7 inches.
