The 'like' button I believe to be a nice feature. I agree with those who oppose a dislike button.. it could cause more problems than needed.

The 'like' button , to me, says " I read your post and acknowledge you." Also , as friendly, accepting, and you are welcome here.
It's interesting to see who likes whose posts also. I have noticed there are many who 'like' everyone's posts.. (and like I said, to me that is very friendly).. and I have noticed there are some who rarely 'like' anyone's posts.. and even some that 'like' only a certain few.
I used to wonder sadly why certain members never or almost never Liked my posts. I took it personally, but after investigation realized that the member just didn't seem to like to Like. I also began to realize that not everyone is like me. I like to Like; it's like a job, a duty, because since I like being Liked and I believe in the Golden Rule, I do for others as I would like them to do for me.

A member who is a friend didn't like to Like. It bothered me that the member wasn't Liking my posts and I asked about it. The member explained that it's just not an important thing to do for them. I guess I'm sentimental; it makes me feel good to see member usernames lined up Liking my posts. It's friendly and nice and better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

For want of a like the thought was lost.
For want of a thought the thread was lost.
For want of a thread the subject was lost.
For want of a subject the board was lost.
For want of a board Ms. Mod retired.
And all for the want of a like.

(Or something like that. :))
Guess we all want to be like the flying nun:biggrin2:

Hey my like button works again:cool2:!
Mighta as well take this as an opportunity to explain, that while I 'Like' so many posts, my "DamnPhone!", evidently, it don't...hey, if it's any consolation, know I cuss at it on a regular basis:mad:
Think most times it's a busy thread thing, I mean if it has too much in the way of pics, 'specially one's what move, and videos, 'specially one's what auto start....couldn't even respond on my own Happy Birthday thread, much less do 'Like's, so again allow me an opportunity, to officially thank, and 'Like', everyone for y'alls thoughtful warm wishes:love_heart:!
Other thing is a "G" thing, ain't got many I reckon, and G whiz I must use 'em up pretty toot sweet...probably on Likes and emotismilies and stuff:rolleyes:

I am of two minds about the "like" button (which is nice, because most people will tell you I am usually of no mind at all).

I can see the benefit of it, although I use it sparingly. People post things because they have something to say and when someone "likes" it that is a small scoop of validation . . . and we humans do so love our validation. Of course, the problem is that some folks just go around "liking" everything indiscriminately, which is okay, too . . . but kind of takes a little of the bloom off the rose to my way of thinking.

I'm something of a chatterbox, and while I've got as much ego as the next guy (probably more -- I'm kind of a jerk in real life), what I want more than acknowledgment is response. I want to know what people think about what I think. Maybe some of you are like that, too.

Unfortunately (for me), not everyone necessarily wants -- or needs -- to be as forthcoming as I do, so my approach is hit-and- miss. It's why I liked the reading groups on the old board so much, because I could get what I was looking for without tripping over Johnny Depp (or -- you know -- whatever) every five minutes. Of course, that strategy quickly presented another problem that took me entirely by surprise.

But I'm not going to tell you about that.

; )

I get worried when no one likes my posts. I think that either it was not worth reading or they just did not " like" what was said.
It all depends on how much time I have, or sometimes I will miss a post completely in a series of posts, so it looks like I thanked everyone but one person. I never mean that as a slight.

I'm the opposite. I sometimes question the mental health of people who 'like' the stuff I post. :p

I made a complete mess of a post where I was trying to make a bad joke by importing images of Eddie Haskell and a meat cleaver. The thing didn't make any sense at all, but I still got a few solid "likes" for my trouble. Folks around here are pretty nice, I guess.

You know what it is, I think?

The "like" button is a participation trophy.

And why not?

In my case I think the 'likes' I get are more a sympathy kinda thing. :)

That's not true.

I hit the like button for a lot of reasons. Sometimes I even hit like for a comment that I totally disagree with, but I respect the person for saying. Or I like that they participated. Or I like because I like. Or I like because it's interesting. I can hit like for learning something new.
