How are conditions your way our southern U.S friends? I hope things will be calming down soon.

Things are looking much better, Flake. Erika was a very different tropical system, thus making tracking difficult. The strong ones follow patterns/ the weak one tend to drift, thus making long range predictions almost impossible. Experienced weather forecaster understood what might happen, and it appears to doing just that-- falling apart. I have heard that National Hurricane Center may have its last advisor at 11AM update. A note: learned from experience- things can and often do change. Once back over open water, Erika could strengthen, but most doubt it.

It will be a rain maker for sure. South Fl can use the rain. But the areas around and just to the north of Tampa are still sitting in flood water. Any more rain is not going to be good.

Tropical Storm Erika has soaked the Caribbean island of Dominica, leaving 20 people dead. Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said Friday Erika brought "monumental destruction" to the tiny island (466 square miles) of nearly 75,000 people. "The visual damage I saw today, I fear, may have set our development process back by 20 years," Skerrit said after surveying the island. "Hundreds of homes, bridges and roads have been destroyed," the prime minister said. "We have, in essence, to rebuild Dominica." Erika also drenched the Dominican Republic Friday and is set to move over Haiti as the storm weakens. Haiti has opened emergency shelters across the country. Erika is forecast to pass Saturday over Cuba and possibly reach the southeastern U.S. and Florida Monday. Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency Friday. Residents across the state have cleared store shelves of emergency supplies and bottled water. Meanwhile, in the Pacific, Hurricane Ignacio is expected to strengthen before hitting the Hawaiian islands Monday. Governor David Ige has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of Ignacio. Forecasters say Ignacio's path is uncertain, but could cause widespread damage because of the storm's dangerous surf, winds and rain.

The smoke has been very thick the past few days and now we have ash particles in the air. Fires are very close; they are in the SE of the city. Fireguards
have been put up and so far it is helping to surround it and keep it there. Had some rain last night but if wind picks up we are in trouble. Cool today
13degC (55degF) and the smoke is so thick it is like nighttime. Hope things improve soon. Firefighters are doing a great job.

just wonderful, peachy, blue skies, sun, temps in the high 60s, some color showing on trees, the grass cut, the garden plucked, got a beer in my hand life's been good to me.
Good grass cutting weather here - perhaps will get Andy to show my son Josh the ins and outs of the Black and Decker - it's a good little mower!

Have two Husqvarnas...one battery-operated, the other gas, and the gas-operated mower has some attachments, the bag-thingy the one I use...throw it on the compost pile, grass clippings, leaves, so forth so on. it's strange, but i don't smell the fresh-cut grass when i cut my own, but three blocks away, someone is cutting the grass, i can smell that! go figure.

Have you gone "nose blind" like they say in all those Febreze commercials on TV?
