The guy who does my hair is in love with this book (he liked the movie as well). I'm not a Reese fan, but want to read the book and see the movie just because of him.
Yes, I think the book would be great.
I mostly like her, but sometimes not.
This role is very different, of course, than what you're used to seeing her in, and I thought she did a great job.

I recorded one of her movies called The Good Lie - still have not gotten around to watching it - have you seen it?

I just watched Deliverance for the bazillionth time.

For those of you who have seen it, I have a question.

Has anyone read the book? I have it in my TBR pile, but don't know. When Drew goes off the canoe and they kept saying he was shot, was he? I kept replaying that. He sort of shakes his head before he goes over, but he was also acting very strange. Did he have a break in reality and commit suicide? He wouldn't put on his life vest. He wouldn't answer when talked too.

And second, when they found him and his arm was all messed up (which looked very very real), they at first had him hooked to the canoe, and then they weighed him down with rocks and let him go. Why? Were they just worried that if he was shot, that would put too much spotlight on the area to search for a killer and their part in the weekend would come to light? So, they just sunk him?

And, they were going to flood the town, would the river itself dry up, and reveal these two bodies weighted down with stones, or was it going to make it a big lake?

DJ,
I have watched the movie and read the book, but it was so long ago, I can't remember the answers to your questions. You did make me want to read the book again though. As great as the movie is, the book is even better. Though it's hard to beat
the shot of Burt Reynolds pulling back on that bow and arrow right when you think Ed is a goner. That bit of cinema is one of my favorites ever.

Mad Max: Fury Road.

Well, I hope this isn't too disappointing. Grandma and a couple of the Descendants are still downstairs watching it. I watched it for 15 minutes, fell asleep for a few more, tried to watch a few more, got up, got snacks for everyone else, and gave up. Literally, I could not have enjoyed it less.

The technology and the mass of humans was completely unbelievable for the post-Armageddon world they were claiming. The, sure, nonstop action was pointless and computer-generated with characters lacking any sort of sympathy. I could not figure out the motivation for a single character, and if the motivation is bereft in the first 15 minutes, something's not getting done right. I could go on, but I simply could not find a single reason to enjoy this one.

Just saw Legend with Tom Hardy. Fantastic film. Tom Hardy is an amazing actor. He completely nailed both roles. The period detail was superb. I felt the film shoed both sides of the brothers without glamorizing being a gangster. Black humor, overbearing mother, cruelty, it was all there. Do yourself a favor. Go see it now.

This was probably my favorite movie this past summer! For what it's worth, vey little was CGI--the sand storm, day for night, some crowd shots, and Charlize Theron's arm are pretty much it. Did you like the previous Mad Max films (in the interest of full disclosure, I didn't like much of Thunderdome besides the train bit at the end, and that was just about all that Martin directed himself of the film)?

I haven't read the book but I have read numerous discussions on the subject over the years and there is no definitive answer.
Apparently, it is not clear in the book either but most that have read the book seem to think he was shot. There are some people that think he was trying to commit suicide (movie people, not book people) but that doesn't make sense to me. Some say heart attack. I think he was shot.

I think that weighing him down with rocks was just to dispose of the body so they didn't have to explain it to anyone in case they were able to get out.

BTW - James Dickey, the author of Deliverance plays the sheriff. Dickey was a very well thought of poet. I don't think he wrote many novels.
