15) Mulberry St. (2006)--Interesting idea taken a bit far. A virus begins with rat bites, then spreads as the infected start noshing on their fellow New Yorkers. Promoted like a zombie movie, but it's more of a contagion movie, and very believable given the close quarters in which many New Yorkers live. The music is hokey (hello, no budget for music) and one aspect of the infection is silly, but for all that it's an enjoyable movie. Far from looking like models dirtied up for a monster movie, the actors look like real people--I liked that a lot. The relationships felt real, especially the two old guys. There is animal killing (mostly rats, but one cat as well--it dies offscreen), and a downer ending, but still...I liked it! (FTV)
