Ya’ll can buy beer in a grocery store? :(

In this state you have to go to a state licensed beer distributor to purchase beer, and to purchase wine and spirits you have to go to a state owned and run liquor store. The beer distributor in my town (licenses are granted to a business and it controls a geographical area) closes at 6 pm every day except on Friday when they close at 8 pm. And just recently they found it in their heart to open on Sunday to 3 pm. In recent years some select convenience stores have been licensed by the state to sell 2 six-packs at a time, but do you really want to pay over $10 for a six-pack?

In Colorado, you can buy 3.2 beer at the grocery store. To get wine and other alcohol, including real beer, you go to a licensed retail establishment. They're now open seven days a week. Up until a few years ago, they were closed on Sunday, an artifact of the "blue laws." Car dealerships are still closed on Sunday.

Or you can go north to Wyoming, an hour away from my place, where grocery stores stock liquor of all stripes. I don't need to. My favorite local retail shop of choice currently has 12-year Macallan on sale for $49.99.

I looked this up, because in my part of Wyoming, beer and liquor are not sold in grocery or convenience stores, and I guess I ass-u-med it was that way throughout the state. The law does say it is allowed to be sold in grocery stores, though. So I wonder why this area is different?

Our Albertson's grocery store does have a liquor store but it has separate entrances from the grocery side. And where we usually buy is also attached to a small, mom and pop type grocery store, but again, has separate entrances.

Probably has something to do with there being a bar practically on every corner up here. ;-D

Our State Store lists Macallan Single Malt Scotch 12 Year Old for $31.99 when I check out their online prices. I'm betting since it's government run, it's a price from about 20 years ago and the overpaid employees haven't gotten around to updating yet. And if I stop by I will guarantee they don't have any at that price. Especially because they also list Macallan Single Malt Scotch 10 Year Old at $52.99.

My wife informed me last night that daughter #3 wants to come home from college for the weekend, and she told her that would be great... And I’ll need to go get her after work today, and drive her back Sunday evening. I said what about the Super Bowl and the people coming over? She said they’re mostly her family and friends so I won’t be missed. Isn’t love grand? I vote we change the wedding vows to “Love, Honor, and Respect the Super Bowl.” Looks like I’ll be listening to the game on the radio, and DVR later. :(

I'm allergic to beer, but there will be plenty of spilled beer, especially by the father-in-law who believes everything is a coaster. We affectionately call the puddles 'Pappy Droppings.' The worst part now is I'll have to limit myself to only 2 drinks on Sunday because I have to drive in the evening. :(
