My stepmom just recently had this done. It seemed to help her! Her vertigo came on very suddenly and I guess they decided it was something as innocent as leaning back in the chair to have her hair washed before getting it cut that caused the imbalance in the first place. Who knew? Not me, but she was very sick for a few days.

Hope it continues to work for you and you feel all back to normal soon! That has to be awful, that degree of dizziness.
BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) happens when the crystals in our ear that control balance go into a different part of the ear canal and get lodged there. If anyone has ever had that room is spinning sensation when they've had too much to drink/hungover, that's a lot like what it can feel like. The testing he did last Thursday to make sure that was the right diagnosis made it like that times ten. Took me nearly five minutes before it stopped. :very_confused:
Makes sense that having your head tipped back could do that especially if they were already not in the right position in the ear canal. Doing the Epley maneuver puts them back where they belong.

Thanks everybody for the good wishes. I'd expected the procedure to be a lot worse than it was but the doc had prescribed a few meds to take beforehand so went really smoothly and no puking. I'm still feeling a little woozy this morning but my understanding is that I might for a day or two after but at least I was able to get up this morning without having the room start spinning and didn't need to steady myself. If anyone else has BPPV, the Epley maneuver that the doc did really helped and he claims it shouldn't come back although I might need another procedure since I had it in both ears.
I'm so glad it seems to be helping.

Happy that you have some relief, Marsha! Continued good wishes!

Thanks!

Don't be being all nicey nice to her. She's already given me the roller coaster ride tickets she won't be using now. Doctor's orders you know.

You can have all the roller coaster ride tickets I ever get. Think I've been on one a long time ago and that was good enough for me. No need to check it off the bucket list more than once. :)

I'm so glad it seems to be helping.
Thanks!

Hope you are on the quick mend ma'am. Hang in there.

Exactly what did the doctor do for the vertigo, Marsha? I've had it for about 20 years. It doesn't bother me like it used to though.
Glad you are doing better.
He called it the Epley maneuver and there are a lot of YouTube videos about it if you want to see what's involved. I think it only works for BPPV so they'd probably have to test for that first. The test just involves having your head turned to the side and down about 30 degrees so I had to scoot up on the exam table so it would hang over the end. If that starts the spinning and your eyes do this weird movement (Dix-Hallpike test), they know it's being caused by BPPV.

Ive landed in Minneapolis on Friday. Started our drive towards Colorado sunday. Made stops on the way in the Badlands national park. Beautiful Then to Wounded Knee. Both in South Dakota. Then to Carhenge, Stonehenge made out of old cars an idea that can only start to grow in an american brain. That was in Nebraska. Then to Wyoming where our car broke down in Cheyenne and we had to be towed to Fort Collins. An eventful Journey about a 1000 miles. We even found a Stockholm in Minnesota, 144 inhabitants with a churchyard full of people with swedish names. But in Cottonwood, South Dakota we found the closest to a real ghost town you can get. It had 12 inhabitants. That is including children. We also passet through the sioux reservation in SD. Now im restoring energy so im all ready to go by Friday.
