Under your bed
I was in my basement room...with a needle, and a spoon, and another girl, to take my pain away...take me dowwwn, little Suzie, take me down...

But nah, I was in a basement room, when my late bro-in-law woke me up to tell me New York was under attack. All I could think about was that scene in Marvels, when Galactus invaded New York, with all the fire in the sky, and the Silver Surfer, and the Fantastic Four...

Hats off to the REAL heroes of that day.

I'm going to tell you a story. It has countless authors, many points of view, a cast of characters too long to list here. It's about a day in September, a long time ago. Today is that day.

I don't remember much of it, unfortunately. I was so young. I had to have been in first grade at the time. I didn't know what was happening, and I'm sure none of the other children were aware either.

I was in school that morning. We were off in our own worlds, absorbing in information classrooms and playing at recess. Our parents and teachers, meanwhile, were on heightened alert. How were they going to break the news to us? How would we comprehend it? Were we safe in our neighborhoods? Were more attacks like this coming?

My mother and grandmother thought of picking me up early. A lot of parents probably did the same. The problem was that yanking us out would disturb us, freak us out. Looking at it one way, keeping us in school was the sensible path. For days, weeks, even months, I tried to decipher it. How could any little boy?

Years went by. I had developed something of an understanding about what had happened. Some things can never be fully understood. It's hard to believe that people can conceive something as horrible as this, plan it, and then execute it. They convinced themselves that they were the heroes of this story, waging a holy war against a decadent society. In their warped minds, they won. The fact is that they really didn't. They'll be forgotten.

The real heroes are those that risked or sacrificed their lives to save others that morning. We may not know them, but we sure as hell won't forget about them.

I know that I won't.

Okay - that image apparently did not work

I am not sure why, but any image I try to copy and paste of birds being attracted to the memorial lights will not work.

Thank you. But can you change your avatar?

What? You don't like Cannon Films? Revenge of the Ninja rocks!

Heh heh. Okay, I'm assuming the Cannon Films logo is the changed version. What did Conner have before? Now I'm all curious. Dang it, Nottie. PM me and tell me what was so offensive about Conner's old avatar. Do it NOW, go! Get to the choppah, (Ahnold Swartzenwrecker voice).

k, done muskies. No one needs to see that again.

I just remember being really afraid of the sky. And when the planes came back, scared of them too. Too hard to explain how everything changed.

I hear ya, sweets. Besides, Cannon Films distributed all my favorite Ninja movies back when I was a kid. Enter the Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja, Ninja 3: The Domination! Sho Kosugi was my hero! Only a ninja can kill a ninja! Words to live by.

A Canadian's day ....
I was watching my older daughter do her on air newscast. Then a red bar showed up at the bottom of the screen saying the 1st Tower had been hit. It was obvious Sarah hadn't had any info come through her ear piece. Then I saw a look on her
face, one I had never saw before, she paused and said we have breaking news, details and video are graphic. That,
was the beginning of 4 days and nights straight on air for her. She said later it would be the biggest story of her career,
and it was, but the tears flowed when she was off camera. I went to Ottawa to see her a few days later and she was a
mess. She just kept saying, all those people, Mom, all those poor people. She was to receive an award for her reporting
but she never accepted it. Said that reporting the news was her job and an award for this was just not right. I was very
proud of her.

I was at the stable taking care of my horses and went back home when I was ready. My mom watched tv when I came home and said to me that come and see what's happen in NYC it's terrible. And then I saw the horrible pictures from WTC

oh, that's sweet
my friend don't celebrate his birthday much (aside for a small gathering). and upset if he remembers his birthday, and doesn't tell anyone when is his birthday.

Not to derail thread but my son and I celebrate our birthdays today. He was 1 on the day of the attack. People always comment "what a tough day to celebrate your birthdays!" My feeling has always been that people died that day and their families have to mourn their death every year. How can I complain of my "bad luck". Today is a day to remember to live every day to the fullest!!!!

happy birthday to Brooks & son! :)

Fishing Rice Lake. Day before employee injured on a ladder so we took the day off, I went fishing, didn't turn on the radio until I was headed down the hill to the lake, the water in the distance. Heard a brief announcement over the radio as I rounded the lake, my 14' boat behind the truck, an announcement so unusual that I was reminded of Orson Welles' The War of the Worlds. Made it to the boat landing before any more of any significance was announced.

Another couple was pulling their pontoon boat off the lake for the season, knew them, asked if they heard if something had happened, something about a plane. They said yes something happened but didn't know much more. I fished, caught a few hammer-handle pike, left, drove home...don't recall if I turned on the radio again as I didn't think about the earlier news. There is never a shortage of things to be concerned about, ever.

Got home, turned on the TV at some point and that was all she wrote. I watched.

Later in the early evening, I had to head out...to the store, an estimate, something, and I saw a line of cars at the local gas station, the line extended onto the highway, main street down-town, and I thought, ah, come on! The world didn't end. What? They think there won't be gas? What? That it will cost more? Never noticed the price, if it was higher, or what...as another member posted earlier. The following day we returned to work. Out on the big lake near Louis Point, where we put in that big window.
