Go for it! (You never know what you might find) - it's an adventureY'all are making me want to go to a thrift store.
Congrats!!Today Goodwill blessed me with a fine 1st hardback autographed copy of Jester by James Patterson and a mint condition ARC of Merrick by Anne Rice. Each was 1.99!!!!
Re: sticker- try placing the book over a floor register if you have forced air heating (with the sticker facing the source of the heat) when your furnace kicks on. I have found that adding a little heat to a sticker helps to loosen the glue. Good luck.Been a while since I've scored any good books (trying to read through my current backlog, anyway), but one of the local thrifts blessed me with a first edition of The Flight of Dragons by Peter Dickinson and a hardcover of Expedition by Wayne Douglas Barlowe (both speculative fiction books; the former was made into a 1982 animated film by Rankin/Bass, and the latter a Discovery Channel special called "Alien Planet" in 2005.) Both are gorgeous, near mint books that are now marred by the store's impossible to remove sticker- but at least I got them on a one day half off sale ($3 for both!)
Cool, I might try that first with one of the books I don't care as much about the appearance of- the problem is that they put these stickers on the dust jackets, which are comparatively thinner and more delicate on some of the older books I have.
Maybe a blow dryer on light settings?
I don't actually have one- never grew up with one, and they can be dangerous to pet birds (as they can contain non-stick coatings that release fumes highly toxic to birds when heated up) so I do without.
I did not know that blow dryers had non stick coatings.
Non-stick coatings in pans were the very first thing I thought of when I lost my pepperbird. Trying to blame myself. That was not what happened.
Thank you for taking care.
Today the mailman delivered a very nice hardback 1st printing of Beauty's Punishment by A. N. Roquelaure (Anne Rice) that I found on Ebay for a great price.
