Been a while since I've scored any good books (trying to read through my current backlog, anyway), but one of the local thrifts blessed me with a first edition of The Flight of Dragons by Peter Dickinson and a hardcover of Expedition by Wayne Douglas Barlowe (both speculative fiction books; the former was made into a 1982 animated film by Rankin/Bass, and the latter a Discovery Channel special called "Alien Planet" in 2005.) Both are gorgeous, near mint books that are now marred by the store's impossible to remove sticker- but at least I got them on a one day half off sale ($3 for both!)

Re: sticker- try placing the book over a floor register if you have forced air heating (with the sticker facing the source of the heat) when your furnace kicks on. I have found that adding a little heat to a sticker helps to loosen the glue. Good luck.

Cool, I might try that first with one of the books I don't care as much about the appearance of- the problem is that they put these stickers on the dust jackets, which are comparatively thinner and more delicate on some of the older books I have.

Last weekend I bought from St. Vincent's de Paul, the authorised Biography of Johnny Cash: The Man called Cash- the life, love and faith of an American Legend, by Steve Turner. I started reading the back where there's a interview with the Cash back in 1988, but hadn't been published until the book came out.

Turner: What books do you read?

Cash: I read all kinds of books...I like American History. et al, and then he says,: Stephen King- I've read a lot of his. I like biblical novels like The Robe, The Silver Chalice, Ben Hur.

Behind you
I don't actually have one- never grew up with one, and they can be dangerous to pet birds (as they can contain non-stick coatings that release fumes highly toxic to birds when heated up) so I do without.

I did not know that blow dryers had non stick coatings.

Non-stick coatings in pans were the very first thing I thought of when I lost my pepperbird. Trying to blame myself. That was not what happened.

Thank you for taking care.

I don't think it's all blow dryers that have them, but it can be very hard/impossible to know if a particular one does.

Sorry about your bird. They can be such delicate little creatures- I've lost several over the years to various things.

Last 2 months ago I found these old books from out of town thrift stores

hardcover of Wheel of Time book 11
hardcover of Wheel of Time Book 12. Both were 50 cents so a good deal

bunch of older Tom Clancy novels such as Hunt for Red October, Rainbow Six, the very first Jack Ryan Jr Campus novel, and the Sum of All Fears novel and hardcover of Dean Koontz's The Taking

Today the mailman delivered a very nice hardback 1st printing of Beauty's Punishment by A. N. Roquelaure (Anne Rice) that I found on Ebay for a great price.

I've got the trilogy from way long time ago. Once you read that, there is NO WAY you could ever think Shades of Gray even comes close to erotica. My bossy cousin was all into Grey and I'm over here in TN rolling my eyes. Have you read them before? Or is this your first time? ;-D
