Made a sudden detour to 1632 by Eric Flint. The best of that series. So many books in that series i lost count. Read four of them and gave up. But the first is good. Need some editing here and there. After the first book i think he made the wrong choice. Instead of writing a trilogy or tetralogy or something of the kind he goes on forever.... Perhaps more money in it?? But the only one that qualifies as good is the first. Another plus with these books, from my point of view, is that Gustav II Adolf (big swedish hero and warking) and his daughter, the future queen Kristina, has parts to play. Rather rare for swedish persona to play parts in an american authors alt history.

Been slacking posting lately. I started the Amazing Spidey-Man Omnibus Deux. Whoa, dude. And #14 Marvel Treasury Edition, the Spectacular Spider-Man (1977). I owned this as a kid. So fortunate to find it and snag it.

Aren't those Marvel Omnibus editions just the cat's pajamas? Big, hefty, full color 1000 page HBs of the best? I have the first Spidey, all the Ditko stuff in one massive volume. Can you say hard nipples? You betcha. Can't wait to get my mitts on vol. two, I love me some Jazzy Johnny Romita Spidey.

They're pricey, but worth every penny. The third omnibus should be released late March. Also, there's another omnibus for the Death of Gwen Stacy run.

Ah, poor Gwen. I have those issues, and the death of Norman Osborne, on good old newsprint. And, despite today's bastardized continuity, in my heart those two characters shall always remain dead and buried (clones not withstanding). And, hell no, Gwen never ever gave birth to Osborne's goblin babies. Blech. That was stupid.

Now, when Ed Brubaker brought back Bucky as the Winter Soldier--that was cool. Green Goblin 1? Dead, now and forever.

Finally started David Lagercrantz Den som dödar draken, (dont know english name, "The One Who Kills The Dragon"?) the fourth Milennium book With Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist back at it. So far it isnot up to its predecessors. I'm 200 pages in and both Blomkvist and Salander are so far rather boring. Blomkvist is no surprise because the books got interesting through the character of Salander, Blomkvist was always a sidekick, and so far she has not been on the stage much. So the possibility for it to get better are there when she gets into the action more. I also lack a little motive explanation so far. Earlier it was always crystalclear why she committed the actions she did, legal or illegal, here it is not so.

The English title is The Girl In The Spider's Web. I thought you had already read this one, Kurben?

No, i held off. It has been on my list for a long time but my suspicion about authors dying and another author picking up their franchise held me away. Then what i read of Lagercrantz other writings made my wonder if he was the right choice.... Some biographies for famous people. And i remember with horror Jill Paton Walsh trying to write Lord Peter Wimsey stories. One thing is certain, she'll never come close to Dorothy Sayers as a writer.

Y'all are making my Spidey loving heart so happy! My all time favorite.

Finished The Girl in the Spiders Web. I think it is a failure. He has done his research, you gotta give him credit for that but he (Lagercrantz) is not much of a storyteller. He loves to tell details of the research to show that he done his background work correctly instead of using it to advance the story. The book is much too long for its own good. Then there is the problem of Lisbeth Salander..... His biggest failure is that the character that stood out from the other books and made them worth while is here reduced to a female hacker named Salander. Earlier she was interesting, now she is a paperconstruction. And the end is wide open for still another book. Please let Salander and Blomkvist die with some dignity left! Dont let there be a fifth book!!

I read a story by Gordon R Dickson last night about a alien that looks like an otter and it made little sculptures and that story is in my top 200 short stories of all time. I started crying.

I don't remember the storyline cause I read it a long time ago but I do remember reading about an otter-like alien who made little sculptures. I fell in love with the little alien :) Do you know if you might have been reading one of the stories in Dickson's Childe Cycle?

I think it's interesting that both Dickson and King were inspired by Robert Browning's poem, Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came.

I finished Before the Fall. Solid, but not great. Not really the "thriller" it was made out to be, and the ending was rather flat. It didn't live up to expectations.

Now I'm on to Chaos by Patricia Cornwell. Another Christmas gift. I haven't read anything by her in quite a while. Looking forward to it.

If I recall Joe Quesada/Marvel higher up forced JMS to do that whole One More Day thingy and ridiculous Gwen Stacy angle with Osborn. If not for those two storylines he's got a great run from what I hear. Of course, I haven't read his run. I'm much more partial to Ultimate Spider-Man. I've read Ultimate Spider-Man omnibus (my favorite), classic Amazing Spider-Man omnibus vol 1, Maximum Carnage trade, and Kraven's Last Hunt (my second favorite)

I'll probably be picking up Roger Stern omnibus next though before I grab the rest of Stan Lee's run or Todd Mcfarlane's.
