Bad weekend. Mom's pipes froze Saturday morning (been super cold here again - surprise, surprise!). Usually when that happens, we can get them thawed out with a blow dryer and with the neighbor's space heater within a few hours. Not this time. Didn't have any water until this afternoon. Went to the store to buy drinking water and had to boil snow for additional water.

Friday after work, mom's radiator went from cold to hot, to steaming by the time she got home. Luckily the engine didn't blow up. I had continuous radiator problems with my old Jeep and have a nasty scar on my hand to prove it. LOL Anyway, had to get antifreeze on Saturday and fill up radiator and pray we could get her minivan to the mechanic's shop before all the fluid ran out. We made it, thank God! They are working on it now. Praying it won't cost a fortune.

My brother brought over a kerosene heater yesterday to try to warm the underbelly of the trailer to thaw the pipes. Until park manager told us we couldn't use it. Had to call in the pros this morning - heat tape and rod were shot and had to be replaced. $500. Am grateful she has water now. Almost cried when I saw the water start coming out of the faucet. :smile2:

That's a crappy weekend Morgan. Hope it turns around for you and yours.

So... the tenant from Hell has won again. Some time between 6:30 and 8:00 Thursday night, she stuffed a hastily filled-out response into our storm door. B found it when he came in from work. It was filled out incorrectly, did not have the stamp from the County Clerk, stated on Pg. 2 that she had "under penalty of perjury" hand-delivered the document to me. She did not. That's 3 strikes, right: 1) late, 2) not hand-delivered and 3) perjury regarding point #2.

The judge ignored all of that. She refused to enter a default judgment because "well, she did respond." Now, look... we had to have everything filled out properly, do everything at the proper time and place, everything just so. We jumped through every hoop. The eviction notice says, right at the top and in bold, that a response must come on or before March 2, 2017 at 4:30pm. It does not say "whenever you get to it, preferably at the last minute and incorrectly." If that deadline can be tossed aside so lightly, why is it there at all? WHY have a deadline if the law does not recognize it?

So we are forced to file yet another paper, pay an additional $112 and have a hearing date set. We managed to get all of that done before 4:00 today. Our hearing is set for the 17th and, by God/dess, I hope the luck of the Irish is with us because we are going to go broke with this. It's been 4 months now. We should have taken in $4400 over that time (plus a $700 deposit we never got); we were given $200 in December to cover that month's electric bill (the name change hadn't taken effect yet). Now, we don't charge the going rate for rent around here. $1100/mo is below average for a 4 bd/2 bath on land. So the rent is not meant to enrich us. It costs money to maintain this land and the buildings on it. We are not "rich landlords."

This is making my husband sick with stress and I am genuinely scared that he might have a heart attack. I don't know what to do! What does this evil person want? (And, yes, she is evil. She is purposely inflicting pain upon others) I mean, does she think that we're going to just let her live there as long as she wants for free? Does she want the house signed over? I'm at the end of my -- very frayed -- rope.

Thanks for letting me vent. I now return you to your regular MB reading experience. :love_heart:
There are people who are completely amoral. They don't care what happens to anyone else as long as they get what they want, and they'll jump at every loophole. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

You're so right, Ms Mod. I am just going to walk away from this one and stop engaging with them, because this really has been affecting my health. I can't help feeling that I am letting the side down and allowing the Truthers and the "alternative facts" brigade to win, but I really do need to stop.

Thank you for your kind words. :semi-twins:

Does that forum have a Block or Ignore button? I have had to make use of those.

Yes, it does. :) I have never had to use one before, but this has been seriously affecting my mental health, so...
Thank you for your kind thoughts, CoriSCapnSkip. It really does make a difference. :) I'm sorry that you have been forced to use the ignore button in the past. There must be a horrible story behind that too. I'm glad that you took good care of yourself and pressed that little button...

It was only one person in a Politics thread which now has 4,085 posts. Nearly half of that thread's over 200 pages have appeared just since the first week of November. Lately I haven't looked at that thread or the one I started here which now has 1,783 posts. I feel like a slacker, but there it is--I just can't keep up. Another such thread on another forum with less posts has now been removed and may not be back.

I very rarely get angry. But today I am down right pissed. My granddaughter has lost a Dear friend to homicide case. Anyway my son in law is off serving our country and can't be home for this awful event to give his daughter support and comfort through this. Today at school she was wiping tears away and one selfish child says out loud you should be able to handle this. Oh ya you are just a military snob. What is wrong with people?

So sorry to hear this. Some have no empathy. Does your granddaughter have a support system at home/close friends at school? May she find the inner peace she needs.

She does. My daughter is home and plans on attending the funeral service with her. I am sure when things calm down she will be seeing a counselor and hep pastor at church as offered to see her and help out.

This sums it up. I sincerely believe this is a virtue that needs to be cultivated and encouraged in our youth. The Bible says 'rejoice with those that do rejoice and weep with them that weep.' Self-preservation is a human instinct but I think, as Scout says in TKAM, we can't really know a man until we walk around in his shoes. You hit the nail on the head, Maryann.

It was Atticus, not Scout, and I flubbed up the quote. But you got my point. :D
