I think it was you or Sundrop that mentioned oyster dressing one year. I want to try this. I've never tried oysters but I like just about all other seafood, I'm sure it woud be great. Shrimp? Yep, anytime, anywhere. Do I need to quote Bubba from Forrest Gump?
I can guarandamtee you that it wasn't me. ;;D
I hate all things that live in water.....they all taste like a soured sponge smells to me.

My Grandmother was from North Carolina. I grew up on oyster dressing, it is good even if you aren't a big seafood fan. I mention it to my girls and they are like yuck, so I don't carry on the tradition.

Sage said to me a little bit ago, "Gramma! This weekend is Christmas!" I said, "No, Christmas is still almost 2 months away." Her little face fell so fast and so hard I felt bad!

Apparently Marti is in the Christmas decorating spirit already, too. I think that's what Sage meant, that they will be decorating this weekend.

Not me...I'm going to wait as long as possible. Our Miss Cookie is going to tear up the tree and any decorations she can get her little Cookie paws on. She is like having another toddler around!
I'm worried about that, too. Panda will be 6 months old in early Dec (we usually do the tree around the 15th), and she is high energy, to say the least. It is EXACTLY like having a toddler/preschooler again (toys everywhere, random night time wakening), but she has sharper teeth :)

We're making the traditional dinner for my family (mom, brothers, nieces and nephew, probably my youngest brother's oldest friend--he shows up most years). My kids love doing it at home, and for the first time in a few years NONE of them have to work that day. Cocktail Dad is already plotting his signature drink for that day, too :)

Reading this thread is making me regret it just a little, but...
we are boycotting Thanksgiving this year. For the last 10 years or so, I have hosted Thanksgiving at my house in the Outer Banks. We have many local friends there, my folks would come and it would be just a huge thing! I start working on the turkey the night before(brining/seasoning), then up early to get it cooking, along with rolls, and a few sides. Other folks bring sides, appetisers and dessert and we eat, play games and watch football. We've had as many as 26 people!
This year, we can't make it to the beach, and since my dad passed, holidays really feel off to me. My mom is coming up, but we plan to eat a nice big breakfast, watch the parade, then maybe go out for a movie, then hubby is going to cook some massive steaks on the grill. I'm not going shopping on Friday either! We'll probably put up the Christmas tree instead. Anyway, likely this will only be a one-year experiment and I will be back to my 23 lb turkey fixing again next year!;-D

We have to do Thanksgiving. Us hosting parties on holidays is the only thing that keeps the family bonds together. My wife resents having to always do everything, but says her grandmother and mother (before they passed away) instilled in her the need for at least one person to keep the families together and traditions alive. And the job has fallen to her.

I’ve also invited the college student I work with at the part-time job and her roommate for Thanksgiving. She is doing her master’s program and can’t get back home to upstate NY for the holiday. She says she would feel a bit nervous not knowing anyone but will probably come. I told her she doesn’t have much to worry about. That we haven’t reverted to cannibalism yet... but you never know, there can always be a first. :) Will probably have to make three turkeys instead of the normal two, in addition to a massive ham, this year.

Nah, no oysters in the stuffing. Just raw and slimy...oh yeah. On a soda cracker with a dab of cocktail sauce. That's how we roll.

Not that I don't like oyster dressing. They just don't make it.

Damn it, now I'm hungry...

On a soda cracker with cocktail sauce? Oysters need to be eaten alive, au naturale, so they wiggle a bit going down the throat. :)

Our tradition the last 4 years has been to go to Victoria, BC during Thanksgiving. We're staying in town this year and my oldest son is coming up from California. Unfortunately, I won't be able to cook due to having carpal tunnel surgery the day before so the plan is for me to instruct his girlfriend on how to cook Thanksgiving dinner so she can be my hands. We love each other right now...let's see how we feel about each other after this test. lol
