The front desk ladies at my job have already set up the CD player with Christmas music and, even better, a motion activated reindeer that plays "Rudolph" EVERY TIME YOU WALK PAST THE FRIGGIN' THING! It mysteriously disappeared yesterday when everyone was at lunch and was replaced with a sign that said "Rudolph will return closer to the actual date of Christmas, have a GREAT holiday season." My director came into my office after about an hour of being able to walk thru our front lobby without hearing the Rudolph song and asked me if I knew what had happened to the motion activated Christmas prop from Hell. I said I had no idea what she was talking about. She said "Well, if you happen to see Rudolph, please tell him stay out of sight until after Thanksgiving." I told her I'd relay the request if I ran into him....lol. The front desk girls have their suspicions but I'll never talk.....:sneaky::ninja:
Party poopsaurus.

If you get stressed out or irritated listening to jolly Christmas music in early November, you’re not alone.

One U.K. psychologist recently said too much Christmas music can be bad for your mental health, Sky News reports.

According to clinical psychologist Linda Blair, being forced to listen to Christmas music, especially in stores, can result in people having pre-holiday stress.

“You’re simply spending all of your energy trying not to hear what you’re hearing,” she told the news site.

Pam Lansbergen, executive assistant for the Canadian Association for Music Therapy and certified music therapist, says she can see why some people may feel stressed out during the holidays.

“I would say it can, but not just because it’s Christmas music,” she tells Global News. “With any music in a certain situation, both our minds and bodies have a reaction we’re not always in control of.”

Blair argued Christmas music reminds people to spend money on gifts, organize parties and trips. There are also a ton of chores that come with the holidays.

“If people are having a stress reaction, having them listen [to Christmas music] for a long period of time can be detrimental,” Lansbergen adds.

Author and music therapist Jennifer Buchanan said for some, Christmas music can emphasize feelings of loss, grief or money issues, the CBC reports.

“Music affects many neural networks in our brains, many of which are a part of our emotional centres, so there’s no question that music will affect people very quickly and very effectively, either for the good or the bad.”

Retail employees have it the worst
Blair also argued retail employees may have it the worst because they tend to listen to the same music during the day.

Lansbergen adds for people who work in retail, Christmas music may remind them of a hectic shopping time of the year, and listening to the same set of songs over and over again can be stressful.

“I can see both sides: marketing is huge and there’s value to having it, however, there certainly are real reasons why it could be hard on their employees,” she continues.

She adds because Christmas music is also small in variety — stores tend to only play popular songs — hearing the same songs over a six to eight week period can get challenging.

In 2012, Canadian retail pharmacy Shoppers Drug Mart stopped playing Christmas music in early November, after several customers complained.

On Facebook, hundreds of people commented on Blair’s thoughts on Christmas music, many who have worked in retail.

“I use to work in retail for years and you do just tune it out and it just becomes background noise … As a shopper though, I’d prefer not to hear the music in the shops until late November,” user Kelly McCall wrote.

Is Christmas music bad for your mental health?

She says because music tastes are so individual, it’s all about balance. She says retailers should consider how music can affect their employees.

“Every person has different preferred music, what’s therapeutic for one person is the furthest thing from therapeutic for another.”

Attention Law Enforcement people: mjs9153 and ghost19 Checkman -- who else are our law people?

I heard a retired cop on the radio one day talking about speeding.

Let's say the speed limit is 70. My husband has always said you can go over the speed limit without getting a ticket, and this cop sort of confirmed that. His mantra:

9 your fine, 10 your mine.

Meaning, 9 miles or less over the speed limit, he wouldn't stop them. But 10 or more over, he would.

Is this sort of across the board policy with police officers, or was this just his own thing?

My mom has a lot of State trooper buddies. I think that on the interstate you might get away with 9 miles, but in a residential area, I would say it's 4 is fine, 5 will get you pulled. Also, just watch out for other people and don't drive stupid!

Yes, I should have clarified that better. That was a policy he followed for freeway driving. I tend to watch those residential driving limits pretty close.

Ghost -I loved The Sopranos. I believe Rudolph should be held for ransom.
I don't know HOW I missed this series when it was on. Tamara looked at me like I was nuts when I told her I'd never seen one single episode. She immediately went and found it on Amazon Prime and watched the first two episodes with me. By the end of the first one I was hooked...lol. We're going thru the whole series now and I haven't seen a single episode so far I haven't liked...lol

Usually has to do with how long you've been on the job..Snot nose rookie? Maybe you get the 5 mile an hour over grace range. Not to say he's going to give you a ticket for 5mph over but it's probable cause for a stop and to check your driver history, warrants, etc. 5 or 10 year veteran officer? Gun sight mentality. You cross my line of sight doing 10-15 over and I'm headed in your same direction? Yep, probably going to come after you. Going in the opposite direction? By the time I turn around and catch up to you? Not really worth it. 20mph or over pretty much going to try and head you off at the pass or radio ahead and see if the next officer up the road can get to you if he/she can't. 25 year veteran officer? I'm just answering calls I'm sent to...lol

Also big difference in the way local police and state troopers work, DJ. Municipal police departments like the one I worked for rarely have time to just sit and run radar, most of the time patrol guys are going call to call just trying to keep up. Occasionally you'll get extra grants from the state to run STEP (Special Traffic Enforcement Patrol) and that's when you'll see guys in on their day off doing speeding and seat belt check stops. State Troopers, in my experience, rarely pull people over unless they're getting a ticket, so usually they're going to give you more grace on how fast you're going. I've known troopers who won't budge unless the vehicle is running 15 to 20mph over the limit but you can damn well bet there isn't going to be a warning when you get stopped, you're getting a ticket...lol ummmm that may also be from personal experience before I worked for the PD....or it may not...fuhget about it....;)

I remember everyone raving about it when it first came on HBO but I just didn't get around to it for some reason. It's definitely an awesome show. It makes me miss James Gandolfini so much, he is truly awesome as Tony Soprano. My son is watching it also, I get to listen to he and Tamara use their completely cheesy Brooklyn caricature accents as they talk back and forth to one another as I tell them to shaddap and quiet down...lol
