Who was the person that one year had something like 100 movies? Someone did. It was crazy! They were a movie-watching machine!
I have a meeting tomorrow with my manager regarding absenteeism :cool2: I lost a few weeks due to surgery back in February. Since that time my attendance has improved dramatically so she should be a happy camper tomorrow!

If I did not have a full time job I would be able to watch at least one movie every day - I will have to make more of an effort :icon_eek:

Kurbens list:

#1. The Exorcist (1978) 4,5/5
#2. The Windmill (2014) Holland 2,5/5
#3. The Conjuring (2013) 3,5/5
#4. The Thing (1982) 5/5
#5. The Thing (2011) 3/5
#6. 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) 4/5
#7. Let Us Prey (2014) Scotland 3,5/5
#8. Trollhunter (2007) Norway 3,5/5
#9. The Descent (2005) 4/5
#10. Rec (2007) Spain. 3,5/5
#11. Martyrs (2008) France. 3/5
#12. The Cabin in the Woods (2016) Kristen Connelly and Chris Hemsworth, Sigourney Weaver in a bitpart. Starts with the usual cabin and five friends but it soon becomes obvious that the twist is a bit different here. They are part of something bigger. Kind of pays hommage in the process to a lot of movies in a fun way. Worth seeing. 3,5/5

I just finished The Babadook. I knew next to nothing going in and, now that I've watched it, I'm giving it a hesitant thumbs up. There were only two really scary scenes. One was very well done (the sounds help).
I liked the overall metaphor about death and the echoes of Shamyalan and Grimm's fairy tales. I think it would have been better (or at least more terrifying) if it was played straight, focusing on the Babadook. That thing was creepy as all get out! That book was perfect as a foreshadowing of future events but the plot took a down turn and I was just ready for the end. I have a few questions but I'm too tired to elaborate and probably only the writers could answer. I wonder if there really is a Babadook book?
Dana Jean, what did you think?

I do not think I could watch #11 - I have a strong stomach but I would rather not watch torture scenes.

So having said that - it is now too late to start a horror movie here - I had a long appointment after work followed by trying on winter coats - will have to play catch up tomorrow!

Oh God - just found out this movie is a French Canadian drama horror film - I take it back - sorry Kurben :give_up:

:adore:
I totally understand not being able to watch it. I got curious because i had seen a lot of talk about it in sites with type the best new horror so wanted to check it out. I mean Saw was bad enough, this is worse but neither of them is a bad movie. I too prefer a different type of horrormovies.

After seeing others' posts, I thought I'd give the following a watch:

17. Unfriended
18. Don't Blink

Both were OK. Unfriended didn't even make me flinch, though it was done in an interesting way. Don't Blink was also OK
but I hate films that offer no explanation and do the no-ending ending thing. Ultimately they just remind me of that story SK sometimes talks about, the one with the women going to the airport toilet and disappearing, with the line of guys just waiting outside and wondering. As he's said himself, he didn't write that story because he couldn't figure out what the hell was going on in there. This movie just screamed of a writer going 'Nice idea! No idea how it ends, though...so maybe, just 'cos. And man, life itself doesn't always offer an explanation for stuff' (to which my answer is always 'Yes, but a work of fiction isn't life itself, you numpty.').
I thought that I dreamt reading about SKs idea in the spoiler. It was evidently somewhere. OK, I'm sorry that you watched unfriended with any expectations. I should have clarified: I had a beautiful tall brunette sitting next to me, a bottle of brandy, a bottle of red wine, and a whole package of red velvet Oreos. I had watched it a few nights earlier with my son and I had the same reaction. Seriously Daniel, this is a movie about a Skype conference? The experience of watching a movie with my son who is in the midst of his teen angst felt noteworthy. The cable abrropty cutting out in the middle of Unfriended unnerved my friend.

10. Thinner (1996)

Of course, the book is better, but this movie is decent. Considering the difficulty, I thought the special effects people did a good job with the transformation from heavy to thin. The heavy part was very good but they never could quite get the character thin enough though (Christian Bale in the Machinist thin is what they needed). If they could have got a Christian Bale thin look, I think it would have ratcheted up tension. Steve’s cameo is good. I loved him in the courtroom scene with his line "they were stealing." 5/10

Supposedly this film got a huge promotional push from the studios, so a lot of people saw it opening week, but then it quickly disappeared. Even the makers of the film were surprised the studio spent so much money promoting it. As slashers go, I've seen worse, but it's really for fans of the genre and not the casual moviegoer.
We all went to see it mainly because of Jamie Lee Curtis who was riding the high of Halloween, which is what the studio was obviously banking on.

Back a few pages I make my comments about Babadook. The acting was very good in this. I believed these characters.

I watched Westworld (not a horror move, I know) last night as I was reading the Westworld TV show thread earlier in the day and was feeling nostalgic for the movie. I guess you can make the stretch and say it fits into the horror genre since some of the acting is pretty horrible. ;;D
Fun movie though.

10. The Boy (2016) FTV
I liked this one. Lauren Cohen (Maggie from Walking Dead) is a new nanny but when she gets to the house and meets the family, the boy she will be caring for is not a boy but a doll. Was creepy and atmospheric and the ending was super cool, I thought.

11. Burnt Offerings (1976) FTV
Watched this one because of Dana Jean. I liked it. But I think I did not get the full creepy effect, because I watched it in 30 min intervals over the last few days while on the treadmill. ;-D I think the second half was better than the first half, when things start happening.

Continuing tonight...

16. The Faculty
17. Disturbing Behavior

18. The Black River Vampire. Not terrible, they were definitely trying to go the way of "The Blair Witch Project" but I like those kind of movies. A bit of a bizarre ending. Rosemary's Baby meets a Twilight Zone episode....
19. The Thing (1982). Wouldn't be a true horror movie marathon without this one.

No need to be sorry. I enjoyed it well enough. It just didn't scare me at all (but then not much does...outside of real life, anyway). Mind you, the cable cutting out halfway through might have!

Oh yeah, that was Audra! She had hurt her leg and was laid up watching movies all day! Has anyone heard from her lately?

I'm in the middle of watching some movies. I have to work around family stuff. One is a Hammer film and I'm appreciating all the comments about those!
