23. Most Likely to Die -- meh. I knew within about 15 minutes who the killer was. If it took me that long.

"A group of former classmates gather for a pre-party at one of their homes the night before their 10-year high school reunion, and one by one, they are brutally slain in a manner befitting each's senior yearbook superlative."

A group of survivors of nuclear war must fight off a paramilitary faction in the near future.
Initial release: March 15, 1985

Ehhh, not sure if I get credit on this one since it's sci-fi/horror? There were some cannibal type humanoid organisms in the movie so I'll let the SKMB decide on this one:)
It works. I'd use it.

My list so far:
1. The Wicker Man (1973)
2. 30 Days of Night
3. Pandemic
4. Exists
5. Misery
6. The Bay
7. 28 Days Later
8. Daybreakers
9. 28 Weeks Later
10. Extinction
11. Infini
12. The Rendlesham UFO Incident (aka Hangar 10)
13. Pet Sematary
14. The Silence of the Lambs
15. Lake Placid
16. House at the End of the Street
17. Unfriended
18. Don't Blink
19. Trollhunter
20. Extraterrestrial - a group of young folks go to a cabin and are terrorised, abducted and/or killed by aliens. 1.8/5
21. Jeepers Creepers - no real need to rate this as it's fairly well known. It was my first viewing, though, and the pacing seemed well off to me. Too many pointlessly lingering shots on facial expressions, etc, plus the usual dumbf...oolery on the part of the lead characters kind of had me rooting for the bad guy in the end. Seen it, meh, I move on.
22. Let Us Prey - I'd heard mixed things about this, mostly bad, but decided to give it a go anyway. Nice idea, but too slow to really get going and the second half lets it down badly. 1.4/5
23. The Traveler (2010) - very, very similar in set-up to Let Us Prey. It's predictable and a bit hokey with some borderline terrible acting, but the overall execution and style is about twice as good as Let Us Prey
plus Val Kilmer plays a character called Mr Nobody, so for those reasons alone I'll give it
2.5/5 :D

A lot of Dana Jean's selections are appearing as recommendations in my Netflix list. Thanks, DJ, for watching them...so I don't have to. ;)

16. Shin Godzilla (aka Godzilla Resurgence) (FTV) Japanese, with subtitles
The King of the Monsters is back! No, this isn't another big Hollywood adaptation of the familiar creature, this is the real thing, produced by Toho in Japan. It has the old-fashioned look, feel and sounds of the original great Godzilla features from the 50's and 60's, with a little bit of CGI here and there (particularly in Godzilla's serpentine tail, which is almost its own character).

A huge cast of characters and a dizzyingly fast exposition (and tons of subtitles) make this one a little hard to keep up with. This is the first Godzilla film I've seen that really addresses the nuts and bolts of the crisis from board rooms and government official's offices. This is very likely an allegory for how Japan reacted to the earthquakes, typhoon and subsequent Fukushima nuclear accident of 2011.

But when they take on the monster, that's when the fun really begins, and we get to see Godzilla battling back against bullets, missiles, trains loaded with explosives, and whatever else we can throw at it. I don't think this one will find a mass American audience, this one is strictly for the fans of the King of the Monsters!

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Continuing on..

1-10. All of the "Halloween" movies from the John Carpenter original thru the Rob Zombie remakes.

11. The Conjuring

12. The Conjuring 2

13. All Hallows Eve...gratuitous clown murder movie. Not great, but entertaining.

14. Lords of Salem....My 4th time watching this one, still clueless as to what it's actually about.

15. Trick or Treat. 1986 movie about satanic rock star who returns from the dead and shoots lightning bolts from his guitar. The cheese was pretty thick on this movie...

16. The Faculty. One of the better soundtracks I've ever heard in a movie, and a great Sci-Fi horror flick to boot.

17. Disturbing Behavior. Similar to The Faculty. Nick Stahl and William Sadler. I'm convinced William Sadler is one of the most underrated actors. He seems to be able to play any role very well.

18. The Black River Vampire. Not terrible, they were definitely trying to go the way of "The Blair Witch Project" but I like those kind of movies. A bit of a bizarre ending. Rosemary's Baby meets a Twilight Zone episode....

19. The Thing (1982). Wouldn't be a true horror movie marathon without this one.

20. Wrong Turn. Hadn't watched this one in a while. Hillbilly cannibals and extremely hot female leads, including Eliza Dushku. Not much not to like in this one.

21. The Hills Have Eyes (2006). Debated on letting my son watch this one with me last night but gave in. I remembered this one being a little heavy on the violence side but then my son reminded me I had let him watch the Rob Zombie versions of Halloween less than a week ago....hard to argue with that logic. Wasn't as horrific as I remembered it to be and still a good movie. Found myself giggling at some of the over the top violence....WTH is wrong with me....lol

22. House of 1000 Corpses

23. I Spit On Your Grave (2010 version with Sarah Butler). Hadn't seen this one in a while. Helluva revenge movie.

24. The Cabin In The Woods. Seen this one several times but still just as weird.

25. DEF-CON 4. 1985 post nuclear war type movie with cannibal humanoids. Campy but watchable.

26. The Vatican Tapes. This one was just coming on cable when I woke up this morning which gave me an excuse to stay in bed. Not a bad movie, ending was solid.

I just looked it up - you can watch The Stand on-line

However - not sure if I could watch six hours all at once - would probably need to call in sick to work the next day

I have a confession to make... :eek-new: this is very difficult to do on the official Stephen King website, so please be kind.
Horror (and generally scary) movies really aren't my thing... :a11: I am seriously wussy when watching one, hiding my eyes and if an animal comes on the scene, then I'm also blocking my ears. (quite hard to do all at the same time)
But... I really love watching movies with you guys and we only seem to do this at Halloween.
So... I tried to watch The Exorcist last night, but my evil, betraying mouse finger clicked on something else entirely and I just couldn't turn it off.

Anyway... please don't drive me off with pitchforks (because I will have nightmares) for my # nine entry. I LOVE this movie. :a11:

Flake's list so far:

1) Fright Night
2) The Babadook
3) Case 39
4) Jaws
5) The Conjuring
6) Hush
7) Insidious
8) The Awakening
9)
Moulin Rouge

Edited to add: I LOVE to read horror... it's only in the visual form that I don't like it.

Mayhap you're correct.

I did have a theory that

He possibly died in Vietnam and the whole movie is him "seeing his whole life flash by right before his eyes" thing. The movie is a couple of hours but it all takes place in just a few seconds in his mind right before he dies.
...damn son, you spelled "theory" correctly!!!....fess up, somebody helped you sound it out didn't they?....
