This is one I really want to see! I loved the book16. The Girl With All The Gifts (FTV)
A fungus turns most of humanity into bloodthirsty "hungries" (zombies) aside from a small group of children who are in some ways immune, but in other ways very much a new species of human. This was a nice fresh take on the zombie genre from the British, which manages to avoid most of the tired cliches that we've seen so many times before while being a decent action thriller as well. The girl in the title role plays it straight as a very well-mannered young British child despite being part monster. It's interesting to see her retain these characteristics even as an "infected" one, and to see the three very different relationships she has with each of the adults in this film: the motherly teacher, the cold calculating scientist who's trying to find a cure, and the sergeant who's just interested in survival. If you want something a little different in the zombie genre, give this one a try.

Blair Witch Project for me. The last few episodes were really bad IMHO. But at least I finished the season, which is more than I can say for Freak Show and Hotel.
Viewing this list and looking at the horror movies and Halloween favorites available to stream on Netflix, I really liked The Babadook, Creep, Come Back to Me, Byzantium, Housebound, and Teeth. These are all movies with unique storylines that aren't slasher flicks. Y'all know I'm a far cry from a film critic, but I watched these two years ago for the marathon and they've stayed in my mind as solid movies.
Teeth, I remember it well.
I haven't seen Creep, Byzantium or Housebound so I'll try to get to those.

The group of boys was a cross between Clockwork Orange droogs and Reservoir Dogs' Mr. Pink and the boys. And a shadow and light scene out in the woods was very reminiscent of old shadow plays with paper puppetry.

So, no, this is not my beloved The Innocents with Deborah Kerr, this is an entry from Argentina. Again, subtitled to watch. Hard topic, difficult to watch scenes. I was not happy with the ending at all. On one hand, it was poetic justice, but on the other, it's not what I wanted to see happen to this person. I guess I'm a little nastier.

One of my old standbys. I just love this movie for some reason. I saw it as a kid and it's always been one of my favorites.
I find it interesting that they rent this house for the summer. They actually have to repair and maintain the house, along with baby sitting "mother," and they PAID the owners 900 dollars for the privilege of being indentured servants to this hell hole.

Another one of my old time favorites. I love Roddy McDowall in almost everything he does. The thing about this one, Belasco haunted the place because he was short. He literally had a complex about his height and apparently he had to be as debauched as possible to make up for his bitty legs. Sorry, that's a spoiler but if you haven't seen this, you have been living on another planet.
