Behind you
So recently I took a 8-5 desk job that gives me a lot of down time, I decided to get back into something I love, which is reading. I'm very particular about what I enjoy reading, my mother in law suggested I pick up a Stephen King book (she has well over 50-60 books of his, maybe even the entire collection of his work) so randomly from a shelf I grabbed Lisey's story. At first, I couldn't follow a single thing. I kept getting frustrated and having to re read pages and almost Gave up on it, but MAN am I glad I stuck it out, towards the middle of the book I was staying up late at night un able to put it down. The complexity of the story line, the characters, the connection between Lisey and Scott, the love she had for him, the ever lasting theme of SOWISA, and the language pool, just the entire book was so mind-blowingly amazing I was genuinely sad when I was finished. I became obsessed with Stephen King as an author after it, this feeling of appreciation within my own relationship, and the relationship between my two sisters and I, the fact that someone can write a novel so complex and clear at the same time and provoke so much thought and feeling, with his words, just wow. I'm aware I'm a little late to the Lisey party, the Stephen King party in general, I just have been dying to spill how I felt about it. naturally I decided to pick up another Stephen King book and finished it this morning and went scouring the internet in hopes of finding a fan page and viola.. I've discovered this place :) I'm excited to be able to converse with other readers and see different opinions/interpretations of his work!

Hi and welcome!

And have to say that I want to boop the doggies nose in your avatar. :flustered:
Stick around, lots more to read and discuss.

I couldn't agree with you more about Lisey's Story. It feels very unique and special; like a trip down the proverbial rabbit hole, or maybe Booya Moon. There are a couple revolving story lines that brush up one another but, as you found out, they culminate like the satisfying click of a Rubik's 360. Welcome.

Welcome, Andryia (had to type that real slow). Now that you have become enamored of the King, at some point you must read his nonfiction. I usually recommend Danse Macabre, since in it you'll discover what makes the man, and the writer, tick.
You have such a beautiful name. I bet it has an engaging origin

HOLY CRAP was I sooooo sooo excited and intrigued to ACTUALLY finally understand the concept of boo'ya moon.. and the long boy.. it's just so relatable as a person with anxiety and skeletons who's inside my own head a lot. after that I went on an internet search of his most popular books and was sooooo personally offended (for god knows what reason) when I didn't see Lisey's Story on NOT ONE top 10 list... I'm thinking surely I can't be the only person to think this is just the most amazing book. Then I came across a Rolling Stones article where when asked what his favorite book was personally, and he said Lisey's Story, I was so relieved for some odd reason. I've seen him say a handful of different titles in response to "what is your favorite book of yours" but still. ill hold onto that :)

thanks!! my name is an interesting one. I was supposed to be Andy Jr... And here I am, instead a female and Andryia lol. I'm glad you said that, I just found out today (through this forum) that he has non-fiction books and couldn't help but think WOW those must be some treasures lol. After Lisey's Story and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, I have Bag of Bones, it's gigantic to say the least. well, to me anyways. I'm hearing lots of great things about it, but am now unsure about starting it because I want to give his non-fiction a try, or just get a few more reads of his in before going for this giant lol.

Let me say that Andryia sounds more interesting than Andy Jr. As for which books to read, I suggest you consider a list of Mr. King's books in the order in which they were written. I say this because in this way you will get an idea of the natural progression in his work. His early work is very intense so you will enjoy it, I'm sure.. Also, Mr. King
once wrote under a pseudonym, so consider checking into that
Thanks for your response and happy reading.

Yes!! My mother in law has so many of his books, and is a huuuuge fan she did tell me about his pseudonym, and his earlier stuff before the turn of the century lol. 2 down and oh so curious as where to go next. Really leaning towards trying some non-fiction of his.

And yes, way more interesting than Andy jr :) and far more complicated to pronounce lol. I've been called some interesting names. My favorite will always be when someone read my name as 'Angelica':hammer:

IMG_0546.JPG I have been mindlessly reading year old thread after year old thread for the majority of my free time today and I'm totally unashamed of it :p I need to start a new book tonight, was originally just going to jump into Bag of Bones, but I do have some others on hand I haven't read either and i'm curious of what seasoned Stephen King readers would go with! Bag of Bones, Black House, The Talisman, or Fire-Starter?
