A lot of the housepets are left behind. Folks who were working out at the oil companies could not get back to get them....the roads were cut off. The fire got bad very quickly ....it jumped the river. Work is almost an hour away in the north. There are teams who are going to be going to houses and see if they can do a rescue. Devon's cats are on that list. It is very tense here....folks are short tempered and crying...mostly because of the pets. Josh was lucky to be home and to be further north in the city. He managed to get the four of them.....wife and kids and dog and cat in the truck plus two neighbour's dogs plus someone pet porcupine. He has them with him in his lake-lot at his RV.I saw a video of people in a car driving. They were upset and cussing and crying while fire and sparks landing all around.
Fire! Jesus God. Mother f'kin nature. It looked like the end of the world.
It truly looked like special effects in a movie.
I am concerned about the animals. Deer and moose and such. I guess they know what to do?
It was not a question of leaving without pets. They never got anywhere near their houses to get them. They were at work and then there were roadblocks. The RCMP could not let their through. They were responsible for saving their lives.I don't think I could leave without my pets if I had them. (wrong word, I know)
Jesus, this guy had a security cam on, watching his house. Smoke filled.
Fishtank exploded.
One of my relatives, Josh, got a call from the fire department. He is friends with a firefighter and EMS there. They asked permission to go into his house and take all the food he has....he has two freezers full. The firefighters have no food and are very hungry. They will check on the house while there too and see if everything is ok.

Fear really does a number on people's reason. It can make one stop thinking at all. A little laugh in the midst of tears and suffering.
Fort McMurray fire: What people brought with them - Edmonton - CBC News
Yep but people were on auto pilot. Shock can make you crazy.I have to share that with my niece. I think she will appreciate the laugh.
But propane? Driving through a fire....with propane. Yikes!

Thing is, most folks in the Fort have all the training that is available because of their work. Every course on safety and things like fire drill is pretty well mandatory and there must be refresher courses taken every so often. Their life depends on it when they work out in the oilsand. Becky loves making up safety slogans and winning prizes for them. She was also in a video about safety for orientation of new workers. This is their bread and butter. The fire picked a city that knew its stuff. In any other place, folks may not have so lucky.Awful, just awful. I'm astounded no one's been reported killed yet. I watched phone video of people trying to escape the blazes past a wall of flame, and it was wrenching.
To our Canadian friends, wherever you are, I hope you are safe.
@Staro- that was a really good article. Had tears when I saw the dog one-- a ball! It is good to see some humor.Yep but people were on auto pilot. Shock can make you crazy.
