This is a friend of mine, Dave Hill. He did not leave the Fort until today. He stayed by himself to fill very needed prescriptions as needed for folks. I use to cook him meals and deliver them to him at his pharmacy. You are a good man Dave.

His grandfather was just like him. He was a pharmacist when the city was only a little hamlet. Sometimes there would be no doc so folks went to Mr. Hill. They called him Doc. All the native folks and the trappers, etc. I am sad to say that the oldest part of the Mac was burned down already. Waterways is gone forever. I get a hitch in my chest when I think about this.
I just had a lawyer guy....a friend's father....come to the door with a big bunch of food .We are not saying no for sure.

OMG OMG
Thousands of stories from the Fort McMurray Fire. Here is another story of courage and sacrifice that must be told.
Visited a Fort McMurray friend today at U. of Alberta hospital who has suffered a broken neck, back, ribs, etc.
He was traveling on Highway 881 this past Wednesday to assist stranded travellers with a ride or gas.
His vehicle rolled and he was flown to Edmonton where he is recovering.
Prognosis is excellent but a long road to recovery. ...
In my books he is a true Hometown Hero.
Due to respect of family will not mention his name at this time.
Also at U of A saw a gentlemen my age sitting at a table outside oblivious distraught....weeping.
Went over and put my arm around his shoulder and listened to his story.
His wife had just died an hour or so prior.
He asked why I was at hospital and told him that I was from Fort McMurray.
Right away, even though he had just lost his wife, he said he felt bad that he had not donated yet to Red Cross.
The human spirit is amazing.
We will return.
We will rebuild.
We are Fort McMurray.

Did she die because of the fire? Or was it something else unrelated?

I am mentally exhausted and physically spent. The house is full with people trying to lay down their heads and not worry about their futures or their pets left behind. We can only pray for the pets that they will get help in time. If they lift the road block north then Becky and Devon will try a rescue...that is scary. I am feeling overwhelmed. Sleep is the answer for everyone, I think.
I want to thank you all for putting up with my posts. It seems important for me to tell how things are going for some reason. Thanks.

This is weird. We have had no offers of help from the States but we have had offers from Russia....they are willing to send in a bunch.

This is upsetting to me. I mean, of course, the American Red Cross and Direct Relief and other folks, I'm sure, want to offer help. But our government, which is so good when it comes to tsunamis, famine, drought, and sickness in deprived parts of the world needs to offer our immense resources for aid to our closest brother, Canada.

I watched a video of people fleeing. As someone else said, it looked like a special effects movie. Towering flame on one side, glow of approaching fire on another, sparks falling down. Hard to imagine.

All the best to the stories, the people, and the experiences from this terrible event. It will pass, and we all hope with a minimum of life lost and an enduring will to rise from the literal ashes.

I posted this elsewhere and commented that I didn't realize fire was so random. A house will be gutted right to the foundation, but a wooden fence beside it seems untouched.

Cape Breton man reaches brother working near Fort McMurray - Nova Scotia - CBC News

I got a phone call from someone who drove through the fire to escape. (Like the video that shows someone driving down the street on fire, and the highway on both sides on fire.) They said it was like fire tornadoes. It would touch down, then lift, then touch down elsewhere. Somehow, that seems even scarier than a fire travelling in a way I would normally expect it to.

But that, I think, indicates the extreme heat of the fire.
