I don't believe that people choose to be homeless. They may make poor decisions, might be unable to make the right choices due to mental or emotional ailments or fall victim to circumstances beyond their control, but I don't think anybody says "Oh, look. There's a cardboard box. I want to live THERE."
I've been homeless. I demanded that the landlord fix a hole in the roof, they sued me for the damages, calling it tenant caused (which is rubbish), and they won. I was put out on the spot. That's how I lost custody of my children. I took them to their father rather than making them go with me to the homeless shelter. It took years to get them back from him.
I'm not posting a pity-me sob story for sympathy. My kids are grown and I've got grandchildren now. I'm simply saying that not every homeless person is a basket case, on drugs or drunk. Sometimes, bad things happen to decent people.
...okay. I might be a basket case, too. But you get the point. :wink-new:
What I got from this is you're a hot grandma? :p

But that would mean that people actually have to care. They'd actually have to do something about it. How inconvenient.
I agree. This is no solution. This is just more evidence of man's inhumanity to man.
This is obvious cruelty, and will never happen in the U.S. I do wish we could get a better handle on the homeless situation. What's so crazy is that there are empty homes all over the place. Think what we could accomplish if we had politicians who would choose to work together, and to stop being selfish pigs.

It is now illegal in 33 cities to feed homeless people | Kulture Kritic

There used to be this homeless guy who liked to sit at the picnic bench in front of our office. I'd see him sitting there, just having a rest, you know?
Every Friday our office used to have bagel day and so i'd look out the front door and i'd ask him if he was hungry..... he'd always say the same thing, "Yeah, thanks.... i could use something to eat." Then i'd ask him what he liked to drink and he'd always take tea. So i'd swipe him a few bagels and a hot tea and i'd take them out to him. He always appreciated it and i liked to do it.... one time he put his hand out and i held his hand. We held hands for a long time but said nothing. I never thought that maybe he was lonely too.... i thought maybe he was just some cat who was down and man, is it ever hard getting back on your feet when you're down. At one point, there were a lot of homeless in Somerville.... it's the county seat and people would be here to collect their bennies and what have you. Yiou just don't see them around here any more, and like the rest of them, my friend vanished as well and i stopped seeing him.

It's illegal to feed homeless people in 33 cities.... this number will be going up as more and more people find themselves without work and the cities and towns consider the homeless vagrants rather than human beings.

I wonder if these same municipalities have laws against feeding stray animals or pigeons and squirrels in the park?

What have we become when we allow a bunch of zombies who are acting as our leaders tell us that it's wrong to help out another human being in need? What have we become when we consider this sane advise? I thought the whole point of being human was our great capacity to love.........? Am i wrong?

Next time i come across another person who needs help, i'm going to spend the time i may have wasted on considering the law, and buy them a bag of groceries instead. F**K the laws.
...perfectly stated...and that's the kind of passion needed to tackle the issue...not an ongoing case of the stupids, that the bureaucrats suffer from...

...now that my youngest son has passed his test to join the Army, and with my oldest on active duty-this stat hurts even more...on any given night, 67,000 veterans are trying to find somewhere to sleep, and this is how we thank them for their service?????....the New Millennium equivalent of punji sticks???????...as many have said, why not invest that money toward shelters, instead of trying to break one off in them???....I only pray that the idiots that came up with this are one day forced out of their homes and have nowhere to go...
It makes my blood boil to think that someone who has served they're country and often come back with PTSD are treated such. I know that there's veterans in Australia who are homeless. The politicians like to hog the limelight when it suits them, and then it's yesterday's news. The government here in there latest budget are trying to cut the pension of the orphaned kids of soldiers who have died. Mark.

How can it be illegal to hand someone a sandwich or something? The nanny-state is coming and it's already here. I re-read The Running Man about a year ago and that book is more contemporary than when it was published.

They put spikes to stop Pelicans sitting on top of the lights on the Five Island Bridge at Speers Point, Newcastle. I understand why, my windscreen got hit by a giant white mess that was a potential danger to other motorists. I didn't realise Pelicans did such large turds; must be the fish diet.

No it doesn't. There are positives on both sides. For me I struggle with it as I have a child who choose homeless life my choice.Long story but if you are curious feel free to message me.
There's I guy up here in the centre of Newcastle who walks around in old, ripped clothes, and is unshaven. Apparently he is wealthy-this is what I was told-but never got over the death of his family in a house fire that was caused indirectly by him. Mark.

Most of us are two or three paychecks away from being homeless. Seriously, you might have a few thousand dollars tucked away and think that that will last you if something should 'happen' but it goes so fast when there's no money coming in and you got your rent/mortgage, car payment, electric bill (gotta have that to power your computer while you fill out on-line applications for jobs), high speed internet for obvious reasons, gas for the car to get to interviews, and I'm not even mentioning food. It goes FAST!

i look at it this way, if i was alone in the world and i had no-one... i'd want someone to take care of me.

To share some food, to offer a little assistance, to give an extra blanket...or clothing. It's not praise worthy........it's EASY. It takes nothing to give something.
