With a new operating system, you might want to update your device drivers. I had to update my printer drivers. Easy business, but something that's easily overlooked until you need it.
Here's how to update printer drivers for Win 10.

I have to admit it. I'm >THIS< close to admitting defeat. Neither one of my printers will print. They take paper, they go through the motions, the cartridges go back and forth like it's printing, but there's nothing on the paper. I've updated drivers. I've gone through the manufacturers to make sure I've got the latest software, everything I can think of. I don't know what else to do. If my computer won't talk to my printers, I'm going to have to revert back to Win 7.

Damn frustrating. There's nothing that will have me fuming, screaming and doing my best Marge Simpson angry "mmmmmmmm" than dealing with computers. Good luck!

I have 2 HP printers. One's newer, so it should be fine. The older one might not. There's a list of HP printers that are compatible with Win 10. They're both on it. They also list all of the drivers and updates required for each to run on Win 10. And there's an HP support wizard that SEEMS to be walking both printers through the process of updating all of the required software to allow Win 10 to talk to them. I am (very) cautiously optimistic.

Aha. The trick was to get Win 10 to update the drivers for me. What ultimately worked was going to the control panel then viewing printers, and then removing first one and then the other. Unplug it from the USB port, then plug it back in. Win 10 updates it automatically.
(win key+x, control, view devices and printers, right click on the printer in question to remove)

Oddly, unless the printer is chosen to be the default printer, Win 10 won't talk to it. But I can switch to whichever printer I'd like by making it the default printer of the moment. (Same path as above, but instead of removing the printer, right click on it and set it as the default printer.) It's a pain in the keister, but it works.
