Thanks to the link to the old board, I was able to do 'save image' on a teenie tiny version of my old avatar. After a few attempts, I finally got it to load here.
Looks like crap, since it is so small.
I have no idea where I got the original, maybe it was selectable in the old board?

Woo-whoo! I was able to find a larger image of my avatar on the old board, save it and upload it here.
    Much better! :jammin:

Holy cow! I didn't think it had been that long since I'd checked in here...... I thought I'd come to the wrong place at first. My old computer crashed (slowly, though). I just about figured out the new one with the slightly different OS, now I guess I have to start relearning my way around here too. At least the PEOPLE seem to be the same, that's the important part.

What happened? I went away for awhile and the website morphed into something different (it looks good though). I can't find the demented baby icon that I used in the other forum (it changed back and forth from positive to negative image. Are all those things gone?

Currently gifs aren't working for avatars, sorry.

OK, I copied my demented baby from the old site, but it just stays in it's negative form. Do gifs not move? I loved that freaky thing flashing back and forth.

Unfortunately, gifs don't work in the avatars any longer. I'm missing my busy typist, too, but don't want to change avatars as I've had this one for so long I don't think anyone would recognize me without it. :smile-new:

OK, if I can't have my insane flashing baby, I'll just go back to the old one that just sits there waiting to slap someone's hands with a ruler!

I hope to have the animated avatars issue sorted out in the near future, but it probably won't be resolved before December.

The avatars have gone screwy again. They are zoomed right in now. The little preview on the crop screen says I am fitting in the whole image, but as you can see from my avatar to the left of my post, it has zoomed right in on the guitar head stock. Any ideas?

I tried putting my monkey back on but the fille is too large now.

I'd try to reduce the photo size and then re-upload.

Yeah, that is simple enough, but it is still zoomed right in to the top left corner of the image.

    *EDIT*

It's getting wierder now, I made one with the image I wanted in the top corner of a big picture, tried to upload it but it said "The file size is too large, upload an image less than 50 KB" - but the image I was trying to upload was only 30 odd KB.

In a further update, it appears to work fine if you have an image that is a perfect square - I made this (Santa guitar lights) 350 by 350 px.

It is like this on an uneven (pixel wise) avatar.

Sorry for cluttering the page btw, I would have edited that post but it would not let me.

Yes, all avatars are square. At least, they should be if you'd like them to display properly.

OK. Perhaps, even probably, i'm just an internet idiot and just not knowledgeable enough to manage to get a picture of some kind instead of that boring question mark. But how do you do it? And where, these of you that doesn't have photos, do you find the avatars you're using. I'm sure this is a stupid question with a simple answer but i would like to know anyway.

We do do have an Avatars thread in the website area of the board but answering you here might be easier than you wading through all of the posts in the other thread.

Hover your mouse over your username (top right hand side of the page) a drop-down menu will appear. Go to Avatar, follow the prompts and remember to click Okay when you are done.

*Actually I might just merge your thread with the previous one but will leave you a 're-direct' notice to help you find it.

Edit: (I lost something in the re-direct (sorry) but you should be able to find this message via the alerts in your profile area.)
