Did anybody see Cowboys & Aliens with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig? I have a liking for Daniel but he does look a bit weird in a cowboy hat!
And he rides like and Englishman--lol. It made me laugh :) I really, really liked that movie. I can take or leave Craig, but Harrison Ford and Clancy Brown are favorites, and I love Favreau's homage filming style. He captures so many iconic western shots. Very well done!

After some thought, I have to add a couple.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, pretty much because I was so entertained the movie after it came out that I enjoyed just going to see it when I could.

Open Range. It was a gritty, well-done Western. For those who don't like Kevin Costner (and I can understand that), you might want to catch this one anyway. And Robert Duvall and Annette Bening ain't half bad.
Two of my favorites. I'd like to add Tombstone.

I forgot about True Grit! I liked the Jeff Bridges version, though (I can't stand John Wayne, aside from The Quiet Man and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and I mostly like those for the co-stars--lol). It's closer to the book.
I have a fondness for that one because I thought Glen Campbell was so handsome.

Tombstone is one that doesn't really grab me by the throat and proclaim its greatness - but still, if I'm browsing the channels, got nothing to do, and see it on, I can stop and watch it anytime. Good flick.

I had such high hopes for Cowboys and Aliens. It looked interesting and different, and I liked all the actors in it, Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, and what's-her-name, 13 from House, and about midway through it left me behind on the road of storyline, coated in the dust of lost interest.

Lonesome Dove is a great western. The only reason it wasn't on my list is that is a series. Unforgiven is great. For me it is a toss between Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven which to chose. But i only wanted one of director Eastwood. The same with Open range. Not a bad movie, actually quite a good western but i think Dances With Wolves is a copule of notches better.and i only wanted one of Director Costner. There are other really good ones like:
Winchester 73 by Anthony Mann with James Stewart in the lead.
Vera Cruz by Robert Aldrich with Burt Lancaster and Gary Cooper,
Gunfight at the OK Corral by John Sturges with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas,
The Professionals by Richard Brooks with Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, Eli Wallach and Claudia Cardinale
Chato's Land by Michael Winner with Charles Bronson and Jack Palance.
As a rule i don't like the joke-westerns (i liked Blazing saddles but not as a western but as a comedy). Mostly i also prefer that moviemakers make a new movie rather these rerecordings like True Grit and 3.10 to Yuma recently. Neither of them was bad, they were both good, but i think put some money in writing a new manus or buy the rights to a story. I can see when it is foreign films but this is not to old american movies. Henry Hathaways or Delmer Dawes original movies are just as good.

John Wayne, as he brings home the girl he fought and searched and tried to find for so many years..but he can find no satisfaction in bringing her home, and he just wanders away at the end.. What a great movie.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford was a good film. I really liked the last chapter of the film. It was more of the anti-romanticized western and a bit slow paced at certain points, but overall I really liked it.
