It's done on my sewing machine. I'm using the walking foot to try to keep the lines straight and use free-motion quilting in the centers of the ones that have the curves. I've got it down to taking a little over an hour to do each block but the one with the diamond in the center and cross-hatching in the corners around it took me 2-1/2 hours. I figure I have another 20+ hours to finish the quilting and then add the binding. I could do it faster if I didn't have to turn the quilt around each time I need to go in a different direction. With a queen size quilt that's giving me quite a workout for my arms and shoulders! If I had the money and space I'd buy a long-arm quilting machine in a heartbeat.

Those squares couldn't be done before sewing them together?

I'm considering a quilt where I cross stitch in some of the squares first...maybe spelling out my granddaughter's name.

Your stitching is perfect! A 3-car garage isn't going to be big enough for all your craft equipment lol.

Will it fit under the tree? How to get it down the chimney?

It could but doing that changes the construction of the quilt so it wouldn't look like this pattern because of how it has to be pieced together. And at this point, there's no way to do it so will just have to suck it up and soldier on. :smile2:

I've never done this kind of quilting. Never took a sewing class in my life actually. Mostly....I just wing it which is why I will never be able to create the masterpieces you do. :)

Finally got a picture of the quilt in progress that shows the quilting. It's a little wrinkled from all the manhandling it's been getting doing the quilting. Some of you may recognize this pattern as Irish Chain. There are 8 rows of the off-white blocks with 5 in each row. I'm doing each row a different pattern but all 5 in that row are the same. Still have 3 full rows and 3 blocks in another to finish and then bind it. The binding is all done ready to be sewn on. Keeping my fingers crossed it will be ready by Christmas.

View attachment 13623 They wanted $72.00 for a three candle centerpiece online. Hubby and I made this for less than $5.00! It's for his parents. It was all fun and games until the end if hour two!
Gorgeous! Having most of the supplies for this right in the back yard is one advantage of living here this time of year. :smile2:

I taught my granddaughter to cross stitch. She decided she wanted to give the rainbow to her mom as a Christmas present. But, since she hasn't been here for a visit for a while, I figured I'd best put it together for her. When I see her this weekend, there won't actually be time for her to do it. I also put together a second one with a heart she cross stitched. She can give it to her step-mom if she wants.

I have to cut off the excess material. But I don't think I have any frill or anything to put around it, which I guess is OK because it's supposed to be from her, not me.

I may show her to fray around the picture a bit.
