It's a plain yellow cake (from scratch) with a Swiss merengue buttercream under all those sprinkles. There are sprinkles mixed into the batter as well. I can't wait until after dinner when I can cut it to see what it looks likes... and how it tastes!

The hardest part was icing it to get the top and sides straight. The second hardest part was getting the sprinkles on. You literally have to toss handfuls at the sides to get them to stick. And they wind up all over the kitchen. I'm sure I'll be finding them for weeks to come!
Ooooo, be sure and show us a slice too.

Have you thought about rolling the layers in the sprinkles?
Using wax paper sprinkle it with sprinkles, frost only the edge of the 1st layer, gently pick up the layer (I wear gloves), hold it by the top and bottom and roll it over the sprinkles like a wheel, place it on your cake plate, and now you can frost the top of the 1st layer which will be the middle. Repeat for the 2nd layer, using clean wax paper set-up of sprinkles, now place the 2nd layer on top of the 1st, if using filling pump it in and frost the top that 2nd layer, and then sprinkle th he top of your cake. I've done this many times and have always been successful. Have fun with it.[/SPOILER]
Actually, that sounds more difficult to me! :D But logical.
When you assemble the layers, aren't there gaps between them?

I would think if the sprinkles covered the entire side, when rolled, the halves should meet with a thin line seam which one could just adjust with a flat end knife. I'll have to try this method and see how it works.

He gets called smart and I get dummkopf. Gee, back in my day all it took was an apple... These days a sprinkle cake? :)
Wellllll, Tom also gave me a Van Gogh cake for my birthday.
Oh, yeah, and he wished me a Happy Birthday.
Where was my birthday wish from DiO? I searched and searched, but couldn't find it... :)

Tom always was the teacher's favorite. :)

And I don't wish anyone a happy birthday. Too often bad things happen when I do for some odd reason (to non-family, that is). I also don't list my birthday here so people don't wish me well. Would feel bad if people gave me well wishes and I didn't reciprocate. So you should thank your lucky stars I didn't, because you may have been spared some really bad mojo. See, I really really do care. :)

That looks delicious.

Reminds me of a birthday party my brother and I went to. The birthday cake had sprinkles and money baked into it. (I bet she never even washed that money.) we had never heard of money in a cake, so my brother who was wolfing down the cake, ended up swallowing a few coins.

I know it is just the OCD in me, but I really need to get better with the art of glue. It occurred to me tonight that I still can not get the right consistency with the mixture to get a fine coat that doesn't turn the whole thing into a squishy mess. I almost gave up on this one completely and started over. Alas, after it all dried, I managed to clean up most of the excess glue mess with some GooGone.

No, firstGemini has to teach us.

First I need to teach myself! LOL Practice makes perfect I suppose.

Amazing! How do you do the lettering?

I do the lettering in Photoshop and then import it into my Cricut. It is a lot of trial and error and really hard to get things lined up right. So I keep making the letters a bit smaller than the real book fonts. This gives me room on all sides when I glue and assemble the cover of the box. I also make the lettering a bit more spaced out and break the closed letters open in Photoshop. This is because I do not want to monkey with trying to glue down itty bitty center pieces to make a D or an O. That would be murder.
