Just saying...............I cannot pick out speech muchly anymore. I can hear sound but not speech, really. Hearing-aids are fine and dandy but for people like me...who suffer from inner-ear infections....they are really not the answer. This is ironic because I learned to sign in my teens. A boyfriend of mine was totally deaf. Now I am hearing impaired lol. Life is so very strange!

I could sign language with you. I have a hearing aid. But I rarely use it. I have difficulty in large groups, but one on one I'm fine.

My best friend from childhood and I - made it a pact to sign. We learned. When we were about 8 years old, another child was drowning in a public pool. He could not speak.
Turned out ok. He did not have voice.

We have been doing it all our lives after that. Even just the alphabet fast. For secret talk, or for many important things.

Hope you guys get together!

Bless your heart, my Beautiful friend. I never have known to what extent your hearing impairment but always pray that you are able to hear at least a degree of the sound and beauty in the music that is for you, that you inspire.

I have this for you, right now, and I dont know if the sound will permit you to hear it, I hope so, but its the song The Sound of Silence which I will put the lyrics as well, but this is the most beautiful dance.

The guy dancing, Nyle, is completely deaf, as he was born that way, he has never heard music in his life, he couldnt even feel vibrations of the music yet he danced sooo beautifully, a routine that he inspired to create and tell the story in dance of how it feels to hear the sound of silence. ( He went on to win the Mirror Ball trophy for the season. ) :smile2:

You are so unique and specially gifted in so many ways , and this is for you. :love_heart: (((((You)))))

The Sound of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools" said I
"You do not know, silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence

I too have trouble hearing voices (especially when watching a movie) yet I'm sensitive to other loud noises (so I have to watch TV with remote in hand, adjusting the volume super high when there is dialogue and quickly down low during action scenes).
I also learned some basic ASL when our son was nonverbal. I've forgotten all but a few signs though :(

I can "hear" folks if they are looking at me from a short distance. I am good at reading lips lol. If they turn away, I cannot hear and I get frustrated. Some folks, in my life, get frustrated with me because I cannot hear. I want to bitch slap them. I will NOT say I am sorry for not being able to hear. Go Feck yourselves. lol

My little love...I always knew the words to this song. I love them and you, too.

I am a bit hard of hearing. Like others above, my issue occurs when there are sounds all around me, I lose the ability to separate the sounds and everything is mixed up. One on one conversations are fine. I never used sign-language but I wonder if it'll fall by the wayside with the advent of insta-screens everywhere.

I had an acoustic neuroma removed about 16 years ago and it cost me the hearing in my left ear. I'm totally deaf in my left ear. The first couple of years after I lost hearing in that ear, I had some really weird things going on in situations with a lot of background noise(I guess my brain was adjusting and trying to help). I would be in a noisy restaurant and hear conversations people were having at other tables but struggled to hear the people at my table. I've adjusted to it and don't really notice except in situations with background noise. For instance, if I'm outside and there's background noise, someone can call my name and I have no idea where the sound is coming from. I hear it fine, I just don't know which direction to turn. ;-D

There's an implant I can get that uses the hearing from the other ear but so far I haven't felt the need. My hearing is fine in most situations. I do get a little embarrassed when strangers come up behind me on my bad side and talk to me (like standing in line at the store). Of course, I have no idea that they are there and many times they think I'm being rude.
