Under your bed
"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy" As a paranormal investigator, I just have dealt with too many weird things for there not to be some kind of mystery/paranormal going on. =)
The strongest case for possession in my personal opinion was the 'Exorcist' case. That case that Blatty turned into a movie, brought * a lot* of folks back to the church once they saw it. Which fuels the theory that folks can be swayed by a movie or events. Deeper research led me to personally believe it was a true case of demonic possession. *clicks link* oh heck that's in Indiana? O.O

As an agnostic existentialist, I find the idea of demon possession as ridiculous as paranormal investigation. And I'm from Indiana.

But, you know, takes all kinds to make a world, eh?

reminded of a thread i keep trying to start...don't...you ever do that? write out a post, never post? don't blink.

but free will. is it possible that free will can be transcended? or possessed? transcended by all that is holy? or possessed and used by all that is evil? there was this once...and this is where it get tricksy and the reason why i said meh, not today. and nope, not today, either. told another one time. i got the so you saw big foot look. no, dude, this was real. hear me out. or don't. don't make no difference to me. it happened. you don't want to hear, meh on you. doom on you.

so...so...but yeah. the idea of free will, being transcended...like one of the prophets of old, out there in the desert. the heat explains it, right? or possession. again, free will taken over. i mean, stephen king has covered the subject, so it's not like it is new to us. the losers. some among many.

anyway...it was only a short time...and freaky-deaky. and you try to tell someone and you get the potato. mash. he did the monster mash. it was a grave yard smash. surely others have felt at times that free will went out the door, that something else was going on. no way, jose, to the attic with you! you get into the subject of faith and all that entails. tension apprehension have begun. but even presupposed there is something understandable is a faith. best to go pick some more beans in the garden. taste good. grow from the soil. observable phenomenon. garden growth.

closest i got and here i go and hit it.

Unrelated to almost all of the thread but if I ever was part of an exorcism and the said victim started saying rude things, I would HAVE to respond with 'what on earth possessed you to say that?'

I just could not waste an opportunity to do that.

I'm evidence-based. If I see solid evidence for it that narrows certain behavior down to a supernatural influence and not some other phenomenon, I'm happy to believe it. Haven't seen it yet.

I don't see that a God, or gods, is necessary for the universe, or multiverse, to exist. Likewise, if there is a God, or gods, I don't believe it has to follow that angels and/or demons exist. That gets into a land where our Planet Earth logic and rules no longer apply. (For further amplification on this, see my signature line.)

I believe in good and bad, black and white, the possible and the impossible. I believe that we have a creator but that the Bible and the power it represents often gets in the way. Someone/thing had to be the "Prime Mover". I don't profess to understand any of it but like that line in an old folk song "If a tree don't fall on me I'll live 'til I die.".

Sorry to bump this thread. My wife's family knew Greg Hollowenske, and I came upon this site while I was looking into more info about the exorcism he witnessed. My wife and I moved away from the area, and although she conversed with him through letters, I never did get to meet him (married 6 years now). Greg was a good family friend of her parents, sponsoring my MIL through RCIA, getting FIL into KoC, etc. So you can take what I say with a grain of salt, as I never did meet the guy.

That said, when I first started dating my wife she told me about Greg. Eventually she told me about the exorcism he witnessed one time (about a decade ago now) when we were on the subject matter. Greg had told my FIL about it roughly 30 years ago, but I dont think he made it a habit about going around telling people willy nilly, only close friends and family.

My wife tells me that he wrote his experiences down in a Journal type book, and she read it when she was young. Thats why I was googling good ole Greg, to see if somehow someone had photocopied that or not. I just asked my wife and she said its archived somewhere in the Church, but I dont know if that means Rome or just some parish somewhere.

My M/FIL speak highly of Greg, and when I asked them about this subject, they told me he wasn't the type of guy who would lie. Does that mean he might have? Sure, but it just didn't fit his personality. He was a very Godly man, the type who would go to daily mass and very involved in his parish, but again that doesnt necessarily mean it is 100% true. The way they talk about him though, and the way he helped their family, I dont think he made it up though. The fact that he told this story to other people before his deathbed kind of throws the whole medical induced craziness out the window though.

As far as the "Brother" thing is concerned, Greg wasn't a monk, which does seem to discredit his story to those on the outside. The link doesn't work anymore, did it just say he was a monk once or was it a reoccuring theme in the account he gave?

I am asking the family right now for some more info, as I havent talked to them about it in a few years.

*EDIT*
No he wasn't a monk. FIL says he use to refer to himself as Brother due to the orders he was involved in, and perhaps that is what he was getting at in the interview.
