As I started The Talisman last night I saw there was a quote attributed to Daniel Webster. It's most of chapter 2 and describes a plaque that has this quote, "From this day forward, know that slavery as an American institution has begun to sicken and must soon die in all our states and territorial lands."
It's said to be from 1838 at the Northern Methodist Conference that had held the first of the great New England abolition rallies. It also says this was a speech delivered by Webster.
But is it really haha? My boyfriend and I are weirdly obsessed with sourcing this quote in the world of non-fiction. I can't find partials of this quotation or anything in Webster's archives.
