If anyone wants the information from Sheemie for how to set up an account to play in the fantasy league, please send him a PM. Ms. Mod]

Sheemiee, I've just moved this into the Self Promotion area--as (we've never had anything like this on the MB, and so) I'm not sure whether it's okay to promote... especially as there are prizes involved. I will check with Moderator to be sure, though.

I was going to start a Rugby World Cup thread in the next week or so... I cannot wait until the first whistle!
Yes Richie is playing, he is captain again but this will likely be his last year playing for the AB's. (*sob*)

If you don't mind I'd prefer to leave it there because it does explain the name. I think people not living in our country automatically see that name as something possibly sinister... and it isn't at all, so I would like for folks overseas to understand the origin.
"Black" doesn't appear to mean the same thing in our country... but interestingly, the experiences I have had via the internet have caused me to usually call my national team the "AB's" when I reference them online, so as not to have folks think I am am using a racist term.

It would break me to think that people thought I was treating folks differently because of their race/physical attributes/heritage. That isn't me.
...oh wow, how ironic...cuz for me-as a Correctional or Prison RN, AB's bears a negative connotation...as in the Aryan Brotherhood.....

Ok, I will be the bad example for the whole United States. :/
That was not at all what I was trying to achieve by explaining where it comes from--and responding in the way I did to your initial question.

I guess it doesn't matter what I call my rugby guys, somebody somewhere will end up not liking it and possibly take offence.

*sigh* It's just rugby... a game that I love.

But I will go back and delete all that not_nadine, because it feels like it was personal to you. (it wasn't though, I hope you understand that)

...that wasn't criticism honey, not at all...I was just attempting to add to your explanation of how things were perceived, not add to any upset-my apologies...offense can be found via almost anything if one looks for it....

No... I completely understand, it does reiterate what I have found online, you're right about that. :)

I am very happy that you feel that way about your team, Flakes. I just have no clue about soccer. You must be way excited! I felt that way when my home team made the stanley cup or another wonderous act.

I did not mean to offend you or any one else . But delete away and maybe another mention could be made of the name could be explained in another more sensitive and bad humor way.
