Then you'd dig my sage-onion dressing. I toss in a lot of extraneous stuff (depends on who's going to be consuming it - some people don't like mushrooms or won't eat bacon), but it's a white bread-based mix and I make a ton - because dressing/stuffing is my Thanksgiving gotta-have.
We are sisters in stuffing. It's my favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner. :)

HELL NO to the Miracle Whip. But yes to turkey sammiches with lettuce and mayo and mustard and cranberry sauce (I make spiced cooked-down cranberries). No dressing on it. That's for open-faced hot turkey "browns".
You are definitely our board food connoisseur/chef.

Veganaise is much better than Miracle Whip.

Dang, woman - I thought I was the only one who had discovered Vegannaise!
It's so bloody expensive, though. I buy it once every 100 years or so.
It's wonderful.

You got that right! Stuffing, dressing, I don't care what form it takes, as long as it has sage and onion in it and I get to eat it.
(I dig cornbread dressing, too, but I like the white bread stuff better.) ;)

Using Miracle Whip is how I grew up. Early, early Saturday lunch (no meat on Fridays years ago).
The spiced cooked-down cranberries sound wonderful!!

MUCH better! And yes to real cranberries--I won't eat the canned glop, but real spiced cranberries with orange... *sigh* The Man makes them every Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they're perfect on a turkey sandwich.

Talking about this made me ask the kids what their favorite T-giving food is, and I got a surprise from DD#1: her favorite is green bean casserole. I make it from scratch (Scratch béchamel, fresh mushrooms & fresh beans), and it is good...but I'd planned on doing a different veg this year. Guess not--lol. Two youngest picked the cranberries.

I do the oranged-up cranberries at Christmas if it pairs well with the entrée. Toss in the usual cinnamon and clove, with some diced pear and call it a day.

Great with lamb and pork, too.

I think what you ate growing up has a lot to do with the mayo vs Miracle Whip preference. It was mayo in our house and I can't stand Miracle Whip although I will tolerate it in cole slaw if I don't use a store bought slaw dressing.

I like celery in mine, and onions, and lots of sage :) My mom's is the best (of course), but my MIL comes close. The only thing that brings it down a step is that she puts water chestnuts in it; I suspect that at some point, she saw a recipe for dressing with chestnuts and thought water chestnuts were either the same or interchangeable. In case you're wondering, they are not--lol.

I found the BEST white cole slaw (BH makes an Asian cole slaw that's to DIE for) recipe a couple of weeks ago... and now I can't remember where I got it! Online? Cookbook? Who the heck knows! It was so good, too :too_sad:

I usually go the lazy (or time saving if I'm trying to ease my conscience) route and use the Marie's Coleslaw dressing but would be interested if you find the recipe. I typically only make coleslaw in summer--not sure why but that's in my head as a summer dish, same as potato salad.

NO NO NO. The chestnuts you roast go in the dressing. Not mine though. Celery and onions wilted in butter water with lots of sage n' seasonings.
