I've read up to book three. I decided to read behind the show, but at this point I think it's safe to read all the way through to book five. I've only read up to book three.

I was a bit disappointed with season five, though I'm so invested in the characters that I'll keep watching no matter what.

Had some trouble w/ the last 2 books, still haven't finished, got bogged down in all that mud & war w/ char's that I don't care as much about. Hear it gets better near the end, but put it down awhile ago, it's around here someplace. Haven't been watching, will prob. binge it at some point.

You too..... I have always felt that i was the only one one that thought The Daenerys parts were rather boring often compared to the other stories. So nice to know that i'm not alone!!

My problem with that has been that after all this time, she hasn't sailed towards King's Landing. Martin sets up this premise that she's going to cross the sea, and it seems like it's going to happen relatively soon, but instead we wait four books (four seasons on the TV show) after the first book is released and she's still hasn't crossed. After the third season, my patience wore out and at the end of the fifth season it just feels like her story is stuck in the mud.

Dany's story did indeed get bogged down.
Unnecessarily, too. In her position (and more to the point, in Martin's ;)), I'd have 'allowed' the Sons of the Harpy to drive me out. I'd simply reassemble the army outside the walls, look at the dragons and go "Light 'er up".
Instead we got plod.
Hopefully the next book will lop off a few dead or dying limbs and get back to the core of what made the first couple of books so good.
