Sounds good to me - I am thawing out some hamburger meat and trying to decide what to make.
Hubby does not like pasta so I can forgot about spaghetti and meatballs. He does not like chili with kidney beans, so none of that. I have gotten him to eat meatloaf, however.

His favourite thing is something called "Mince and Tatties". You brown the meat with onions, salt and pepper, then thicken it with gravy. This is served over mashed potatoes. Plain and simple but he thinks it's great.
That sounds kind of good. I looooove gravy. What kind with this? Do you use the fat from the meat or do you need a package of powder?

You better ask him - he ended up making it! I peeled the potatoes.

He also had some rutabaga or turnip on the side and put minced up carrots and green peas in with the meat (as well as the usual onions).

For dessert we had homemade rice pudding (the kind you bake in the oven). I have always preferred baking and making desserts over the regular cooking.

Oh yeah - I always buy either lean or extra lean ground beef so there wouldn't be any fat to drain off, anyway. (I think he might use Bisto to thicken the gravy).

LOL -poor Andy having to cook on his vacation! I don't much care for baking, but I got on a cookie baking roll during Christmas break. I buy my meat at Costco (do ya'll have Costco up there). It's always nice and lean at a good price. That dish sounds yummy - I'm going to see if I can find a recipe for it.

Hey ya'll! I'm still worried about Mary (@pegasus216 ) - She's was usually on here same time as all of us every day, and I have seen her in over a week now. Anyone know her? I hope she's fine.
Now I'm starting to worry too because well, obviously because of her recent health issue but also because her grandbaby was sick with fever and a convulsion last time she was in.
I hope everything is okay, maybe they've had some weather related power issues their way?

Please do check in @pegasus216 if you see these messages.

That's called Cottage Pie Neesy. And when you use lamb mince it's a Shepherds Pie :)

Thanks Claire! I've made Shepherd's pie but never with gravy - it would be so much better with gravy - except here we call Shepherds Pie the one you make with ground beef (is that what ya'll call mince?), and I've only just now heard it called Cottage Pie. I love hearing our different words for the same things.
