Thanks for this, my friend. You can hear the raw emotion in his voice as he speaks. He's not one to really show his emotions, but it's really there for all to hear. I don't think this is the full clip of his 'talk' though, as I speciafically remember him looking directly into the camera and talking about how 'dare these people do something like this in his backyard' or something to that effect and staring right into the camera lens and saying 'God d*man you. God d*mn you.' It was very powerful to see.
...this was an exceptionally moving piece and one that amazed me for the pure unscripted passion...Dave, as you say-was never one to wear his emotions on his sleeve, at least not very damn often-but when he did, the dentally challenged smart ass façade slipped and you saw some the real David there....

The last time Steve was on by himself to promote a book several years ago, he was rude to Steve but I honestly don't remember the specifics of what it was about and was more the "tone" that Letterman was taking than anything that was exchanged between them. I don't even remember that Steve said anything that should have provoked him. Unfortunately I don't have any links to that particular show to explain it better.

...sounds more like Dave was somewhat threatened by Steve's intelligence and strength of character...as an interviewer I can be intimidated by my guest if they are "brighter" than I, but I have learned over time to not let it bother me...in a lot of cases I think Letterman doesn't like being "one upped"....

Maybe Steve should have jumped up on the desk and flashed his boobies at Dave ala Drew Barrymore? ;;D

Being rude on purpose,I kind of think he just has that sense of humor where he swings a wide bat,and tries to hit every humor angle..he sure pokes fun at himself,I would be surprised if he was intentionally rude to SK..
I didn't get that impression. There was more of an edge to it than just trying to be funny or maybe it just wasn't working that night. Either way, he came across as being an azzhat.

I think it was the '96 one but in retrospect doesn't seem nearly as rude as I thought it was at the time. ;-D
Seems pretty innocuous, though I noticed that in this interview, and the one with JCM,that Letterman cut off Steve in the midst of story,at the end of the interviews..though they seemed to be having a good time and busting each other back and forth which is what we dumb guys like to do..:) perhaps it was because SK was going on for a while? No,no chance of that,we know he likes to keep things brief! Anyhow, hope Steve keeps on keeping on,until he gets bored or the well runs dry,I need new books every year!
