Has anyone seen this meme going around?

halloween-2015-friday-the-13th-666-years.jpg

It's apparently making the rounds on social media sites. I was unaware at first, of course, because I don't do social media. Anyways, it seems a lot of people are actually believing this. I found out about it because an acquaintance told me about it and how 'spooky' it is. And he was dead serious.

I'll admit, at first glance, it seems plausible, and just creepy enough to be true. But then you have to stop and think about this a moment. Aside from the fact that Halloween doesn't even date back 666 years, Halloween, (Oct. 31) can never fall on Friday the 13th, for obvious reasons. Apparently, this fact is lost on people in their haste to accept anything they see in their facebook feed as authentic.

My point? I think social media is making people more gullible and less likely to think things through on their own.

What are some of the most bizarre and flat out wrong memes you've seen online that others accept as fact?

This is so hilarious! Thanks for sharing. I'm going to tell my students this Tuesday and see how many of them get it.

Share this picture of a sick/dieing/injured baby/toddler/dog/cat. Each share is worth prayers (number varies).

Imagine that picture is of your child, used as click bait, years after the child died. And it pops up on your social media.

Similar is, share this picture and God will solve your financial problems.

Instead, I post this one,

I hate the ones that feature a little kid holding up a sign that says "if I get ___ likes my mommy will stop smoking!" That is just too sad.
Also the ones that show sick babies that say "for every share facebook will donate $___ ". It doesn't work like that! People share this stuff all the time without verifying!
