Perfect days are hard to achieve, but yesterday came close.
Delightful visits from family and friends as they wandered in and out throughout the day.
The cooking started early in the smoker that Daughter and Son(-in-Law) brought over and turned out delicious ribs later that day. Other stuff for the grill for those wanting something other than ribs.
A bit hot on the weather, but sitting under the backyard tree canopy and our yard canopy worked fine. Breezes came up now and then, not only cooling us down but keeping the mosquitoes away.
Later in the afternoon, showers came up, very light, just enough to provide relief but not strong enough to actually get us wet, especially sitting under that tree. It didn't even disturb the rotating horseshoe games going on.
Mostly, any politics that entered the conversation were lighthearted toasts to "Rebellion Day" and "Treason Day." (And because we're geeky about such things, we had to note that it wasn't the actual birthday of the U.S. That would be June 21, 1788, but "The Glorious Twenty-First" doesn't have the same ring, does it?)
Lots of great food, wonderful friends and neighbors, great family. The last visitors filtered out about 8 pm. A long and utterly enjoyable gathering.
This should happen more often nowadays. I mean, for everyone.
