....the carpet makes me nauseous....I'd come play with you, but I have this thing....
I know King never liked this cover, but of the Doubleday HCs it is my favorite along with Pet Sematary.Published January 28, 1977, thirty-nine years ago today!
I never knew Steve didn't like the cover. Hmmm. I myself love it, I think it totally captures the novel. Especially Danny's eyes.......I know King never liked this cover, but of the Doubleday HCs it is my favorite along with Pet Sematary.
He said he didn't think the faces looked much like the characters he describes, or something like that. I agree with you. It's a beautiful cover...and I'm a bit biased because I was born ten days before it was released. Lol.I never knew Steve didn't like the cover. Hmmm. Figured he would have not liked the cover for The Stand. Those two fighting figures really don't have anything to do with what's happening in the book. Well, other than representing good vs. evil. And the cover of Carrie makes you think it's going to be about some shy type of woman looking for love....He said he didn't think the faces looked much like the characters he describes, or something like that. Yeah, that's just an OK cover, but an iconic cover thanks to the republication in 1990. That's one that I feel ambivalent about, I guess. Is there a hardcover thread? I've got a lot of opinions on this subject, ha ha. "I can't wait to hear them!" said no one ever on the SKMB.Figured he would have not liked the cover for The Stand. I love the cover because of the memory of my introduction to Stephen King. The Shining was my first story.I never knew Steve didn't like the cover. Hmmm. I myself love it, I think it totally captures the novel. Especially Danny's eyes.......
I don't blame him. It looks like the cover of a Howard Fast novel--lol.I know King never liked this cover, but of the Doubleday HCs it is my favorite along with Pet Sematary.
That may have been an author King used in the disparaging analogy, can't remember. I don't like portaits or caricatures on hardbacks in general but I love this hardcover art. Silhouettes would have improved it, probably, but the art still pushes all the right buttons for me: the colors, the title font, the collage of images. Again, I'm sentimental about it, lol.I don't blame him. It looks like the cover of a Howard Fast novel--lol.
I felt something like this would happen.
I'm guessing Howard Fast or Harold Robbins, because this cover looks like the covers of their 'businessmen being bad' books from the late 70sThat may have been an author King used in the disparaging analogy, can't remember. The hardcover Carrie is THE WORST cover ever for a SK book, in my opinion.Figured he would have not liked the cover for The Stand. ...yep, it is a prime example of how the cover has no relevance to the words inside....The hardcover Carrie is THE WORST cover ever for a SK book, in my opinion.
