Thank you for the well wishes. I forward them as well to the dads here.

What I sent out:

"To my wife, kids, their spouses, and their kids: If you want to observe the day in some way that involves me, that's fine, but not necessary. I'm always buoyed by your love and respect and can only hope to return it in kind. For me, every day is Father's Day. I don't need one day out of those 365 for affirmation.

Love,
Dad/Grandpa"

I have a hard time with father's day. My dad wasn't worth much while I was growing up, and still isn't. He was never around unless he wanted something from us, and seemed to thrive on humiliating me and my brother. My brother was much more forgiving than I am, and when I would explode, he would always hug me and say, Sissy, that's just dad, that's not us......I spoke to him for the first time since 2009 on Christmas day this past year.....and only because my Mom kinda guilted me into calling him. She says I should at least try to be friendly to him, and that I will regret not at least trying to have some sort of relationship with him when he's gone. I disagree....but for her, I made the phone call. It was okay......but a week later, he shows up at the salon to "surprise me".....and he's still talking down to me, calling me fat, calling me ugly, acting like a complete jerk......He did remember my daughter's name, though and I was surprised by that.....Cara will be 13 in July, and he has never called her anything other than "the little girl".....somehow, that always pissed me off that he couldn't even remember his only grandchild's name. So, I have a hard time with father's day......I don't have very many good memories of growing up with my dad, and the few I have get foggier as time goes by....It's his own fault, not mine.
I always tell my Mom happy father's day.....heck, she had to be both to me and Mark.....and we could be a handful! :D

To all the fathers out there who are wonderful, I wish you a day of all things great and amazing!!! ♥

Your dad totally missed out on a kick-ass daughter.

Fool.

I'll share mine with you if you like. He's a really good guy. :)

...just spent some time at brunch with Dad and Father-in-law...the years are getting shorter for these times to continue, and I savored it...Dad is 85 and Pop-in-law is in his early 70's...was nice too, coz my Mom was able to come along...we ate at the restaurant where my wife hostesses...it's right on Seneca Lake, so we ate on the deck and enjoyed the ambiance...

Grandma took me out for dinner. What a great time. Japanese food isn't her favorite, and I love it, so she bucked up and we went there.

She loved it! I had a sushi plate, ordered rolls for us on the side, and she snarfed it down. Even one of the rolls, which had a strip of striped bass on top. She realized what it was, cut it up, gulped it down, and pronounced it tasty. I also gave her a little bit of barbecued seafood flesh. "Delicious!" she said. "What is it?" I said, "Eel." The look on her face was priceless, but she couldn't deny she liked it.

A very nice evening. Sitting down now to a movie. Enjoy the rest of the day, everyone.
