P.S. I know that Donald E. Westlake used the pseudonym Richard Stark. That's where Uncle Stevie got half of his Richard Bachman pseudonym (the other half being Bachman-Turner Overdrive).

...many welcomes to you...and just as a personal aside-could you please back off on the "Uncle Stevie" reference?....we graybeards use it from time to time, but it makes him sound rather juvenile-which is why it's an infrequent pet name....not being nasty, just asking as a favor.....
I'm going to have to say no to that. Hell no. The man himself made up that one. It isn't some secret incantation that only you and "longtime" fans are allowed to use. If this makes us enemies, so be it. If you want to make nice, you could do me a favor: stop making ridiculous requests of strangers.

Just so that people know, (this has come up a time or two before) it was something that first appeared during the very earliest of our beta testing days.
I sometimes call Eric Clapton "Uncle Eric" (I got this from a school friend sooooo many years ago) and somebody else in the beta tester group picked it up and started calling Stephen "Uncle Stevie".
It eventually got back to him via Ms. Mod and she came back and let us know that he wasn't actually that fond of it.
So perhaps he has called himself this a time or two since then, but I am guessing that it would have been very tongue-in-cheek to start with because it wasn't a preferred name.
I suspect his real beef might not be with the avuncular title of "Uncle" which connotes wisdom (and a bit of mischief) but with the name Stevie. Well Stevie had better get used to being a Stevie already. Because he sure as hell ain't no Steve. And nobody really likes their name anyway.
I won't speak for GNTL, but because Marsha (Ms. Mod) has been Stephen's personal assistant for over 25 years now, I feel confident in letting you know that he does prefer "Steve" (from people that actually know him) and doesn't like "Stevie" so much.

Just saying. Maybe I'll get around to everything, but it's not all of the same quality and then there is personal taste. Even Stevie would admit it. I don't care much for the Gunslinger series for example. I thought The Stand was too goddamn long. And The Dark Half would have worked a lot better as a short story. And besides, usually his novels are extended rehashes of ideas he had previously explored in a short story. Oh, and I also like Richard Matheson just like Stevie does. Forgot to mention him.
Of course he does, ha. You have proven nothing. If Stephen King is anything, he is a nerdy bookworm. Nerdy bookworms named Stephen don't ever get to be Steves. They can become rich and successful and insist on being called Steve, but they will never really fully be one. I grew up with a Steve; by sophomore year of high school he was spending his snow days banging older girls while his mom was out.
I do have to ask, (out of curiosity and also as a moderator) are you here (on the website) to contribute to discussions, or are you more interested in posting inflammatory remarks? (we do have a 'no flaming' policy on the SKMB)

Full disclosure, I am giving the benefit of the doubt to this person as we do to all new members. Sometimes it takes folks a little while to fit in to a new situation/MB, so... if they decide they want to stay, they generally self-moderate their behaviour and then get down to the business of joining discussions.
If they are only here to upset things, ('flame') this becomes self-evident and the moderators will deal with it in due course.
