Hoss, about 5 minutes up the road from me they’re having the PA Blues Festival in two weeks. I’ve been asked to consider helping out (no payment for my services of course). I’m not at all into Blues music, but I do like the music of the likes of Clapton, the Stones, the Yardbirds, etc which were influenced by the Blues.

Are you familiar with any of the acts playing there (listed below), and do you think any are worthwhile giving up a weekend in order just to here the music? (and I’m sure there will be plenty of hot chicks... and the snakes, of the reptilian kind at least, will stay hidden in the rocks.)

Tad Robinson, Shawn Holt & The Teardrops, Barbara Carr, Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters, The James Cotton Blues Band, Rip Lee Pryor, The Ursula Ricks Band, The Como Mamas, The Jarekus Singleton Band, Chris Cain Band, The Heritage Blues Quintet, CJ Chenier & The Red Hot Louisiana Band, A Little Bit Of Blues with Warner Williams, Jay Summerour & Eric Selby, Super Chikan, The Jarekus Singleton Band, Dave Weld & The Imperial Flames, The Murali Coryell Band with special guest Dave Keyes, The BC Combo with Bev Conklin, Slam Allen, Mikey Junior, Joe Mac & Lonnie Shields.

I grew up in Southern Arkansas, we had an abundance of what we called "Coon-Tailed Rattlesnakes". Not as long or as wide as Eastern or Western Diamondback rattlers but hard as hell to spot and ill tempered. My old man worked in a barite mine and the blasting they did in the mountains caused the rattlesnakes to be very active. They were constantly finding rattlers in the Terex trucks, work areas, the office areas, etc. It became such a hazard that they actually started posting "Danger: Check Work Area For Rattlesnakes" signs all throughout the mining complex. I've got a picture of my old man in one of my photo albums that shows him holding a live rattlesnake. He would catch them then let them go.....which gives you some indication of my backwoods upbringing...lol I do find snakes fascinating. I've never killed one and wouldn't dare hurt one intentionally.
I think that is a local name for timber rattlers, which are very common in that area. Could also be a western pygmy or a black rattler. All of those look different from diamondbacks and have "fat" tails. Rattlers are pretty docile as long as you don;t disturb their slumber or nest. Typically if they are slithering around they will avoid you at all costs. I used to see rattlers all the time too, but rarely had to kill one.

I have heard of a coupe of these acts, but blues is like jazz in that there are SO many players out there that are awesome that very few people know of. I say do it. You'll have a great time with the fans these things attract. They all love that music, so they WANT to be there. It gives the whole event a sense of camaraderie that might not be at other concerts.

And everyone loves the blues, they just don't know it sometimes... :)

There have been a number of celebrities who have looked good posing with snakes, including Mary Louise-Parker, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Rena Sofer, Kristen Bell, Mallika Sherawat, Rachel Weisz, Brooke Miller and Hayden Panettiere. And that’s not including the scores of models photographed with serpents.
A man's gotta have his hobbies.

I've always liked snakes. They don't carry diseases that mammalian vermin do, which is why I never let the family kill a snake around the house, or anywhere for that matter. Better to have the snakes than the vermin.

Kinda like when we lived in Okinawa. There were flying cockroaches there the size of your thumb, and they liked to hide in the dark and fly at you when the lights came on. So we liked our geckos. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

There is a marked human tendency toward herpetophobia...if I've got a king snake around the house, I have a much lower chance of hantavirus. I'll take the snake over the deer mice, thanks.
Since they look creepy spiders and snakes have gotten a raw deal based on their relative differences compared to other creatures; and so, they get unnecessarily killed. The persecution of any living thing for any reason is always wrong.

She'll be most thankful too as--she really doesn't like snakes! :biggrin2:
Ah yes, we do need to think of Ms Mod and not cause any undue pain and suffering upon her return (and King a possible worker's comp claim). Therefore I will end my input to this week of sexy slithering silliness with a final entry (and some bad alliteration). I implore all not to make any further entries so as to allow this thread to ride off into the sunset of message board obscurity by Monday. And if someone does add posts, causing Ms Mod to be forced to cast her eyes upon the most vile of topics, hey... don't blame me. :)

Proof that while the combination of hot chicks and snakes might be visually appealing, combining the two could be rather disturbing...
