Today is the kind of day we wait for all year out here on this godforsaken prairie upon which I make my home.

Clear and sunny with almost no wind and negligible humidity.

Of course, the problem with the perfect day is that it never occurs to me to wear a hat (because I keep letting myself forget that I don't have any hair on my head), so I get a sunburn.

Remind me sometime to tell you the story of what I didn't think of the first time I ever shaved my head.

(or maybe you can guess)

Do you ever get the feeling that the TV weather people actually like bad events?

"

There's a guy on the radio where I live who calls them "weather terrorists."

Live anywhere long enough and you'll see the pattern and probably won't need the meteorologist at all, so I guess I can't really blame them for getting excited when something out of the ordinary happens. But what gets me is when they ratchet-up perfectly normal weather events (like snowstorms in Minnesota) into "Snownamis."

I lived on the Florida panhandle for years, and what you get in the summertime -- everyday like clockwork -- is thunderstorms. The fact that it happens every day like clockwork, however, does not preclude the weather terrorists from issuing thunderstorm warnings . . . every day . . . like clockwork.

And here's another thing:

I'm sitting in my living room watching television. If I can see your "warning," I guess that would mean I'm safe from the mean old thunderstorm that stops by every afternoon.

But I'm ranting . . .

What prairie are you on? No rain here in Alberta. 90F today. There seems no relief with the wild fires. We are promised rain but never get it. Very dry.

I'm a bit south of you, in friendly Minnesota, where it is a fresh, dry 80 degrees under crisp blue skies.

It's a stunningly beautiful day here.

One in a million.

Oh, hi Pegasus!

The "unexpected" rain took place today. Forecast also warned about thunderstorm, so far none this summer.
I'm not a specialist in climate issues, but it seems like in northern Europe, or in Finland, there's a one twelve month season called autumn, going on and on.
