Hey Sunny! I've seen there have been mudslides, etc. out there. Hope you stay safe!

Don't like the sound of this at all. Are you inland enough (away from Joaquin) and have a place to go that is high enough to stay with friends or family if needed? Worried about you...........

Take care. You have a pump for the basement to get the water out? I have an extra pair of chest waders I could send you (I didn't know they made them in women's shoe sizes when I ordered them :()

Thanks, Y'all. I'm fairly dry and safe for now. Boone is pretty far inland, and we're usually too high in the mountains for hurricanes to do harm here. However, I remember when Hugo came through, and we were all laughing and saying hurricanes don't come to Boone.....well, that one came right up the mountain, and did quite a bit of damage. I haven't doubted the power of a storm, or any possibility since.
Our forecast until Monday is for continued rain and thunderstorms.
I don't have a pump for the basement, but am considering digging a moat.

Wow, Sundrop! Hugo really did a number in the Winston-Salem/High-Point/Greensboro area. I was in synagogue that evening and we all crowded into the basement. When we finally decided that the worst was passed people left slowly and cautiously for their homes. On the way home we passed the commercial airport. At that time there was a recently constructed, supposedly, tornado and hurricane proof hanger. That thing got ripped to shreds and there was a half an airplane in the middle of the road. Probably one of the most surreal things that I've even seen in my life. Hugo definitely taught me a lesson in respecting mother nature.

The governor has declared a state of emergency for all 100 counties in NC. Heavy rainfall is to begin this evening and will continue through Sunday night. Flash flood warnings in effect for my area from This afternoon until Sunday night at 8:00 p.m.
I'm only working until noon today, so I can come home and watch the basement and the river that my street will become.....our street is sloped, so the runoff won't really puddle up.....but I am kinda concerned about the neighbor's willow tree. If there's a landslide, that tree will end up on top of my car. Hoping they missed the forecast, even by just a little bit. Also very glad the hurricane looks like it's taking an alternate course.....
Be safe out there, Y'all!

Be safe, Sunny. Can you park your car in another neighbors driveway- with no trees?

The only neighbor with a spare parking space also lives on the flat side of the street. His driveway will become part of the river.
I'm going to park the car really tight next to the house.... parallel to the front porch. That's the farthest point from the neighbor's tree as I can get. If the tree comes down, it will still block the driveway, but it should miss the car.....fingers crossed......
