Would your house insurance cover that? Or would they consider that "an Act of God?" (to get out of compensating those involved)

Heh! I should call them and ask...maybe by doing so the insurance companies would build a fire under this guy's ass. We had a rain on top of a 6" snowfall early in December...that layer is up there still, waiting. How the snow slides off his metal roof varies with snowfall, temps, so on so forth. But yeah...I've had some dealings w/snow & ice damages and insurance companies. Like this once, ma gets in an accident...they bring the car down to Dick Bond's...next day the insurance agent is on the horn with the old man...I found some used struts he says. The old man tells him I'm not paying you for used insurance. Like it is coming out of their pocket. I could go on and on. So yeah, based on past experience...

I've also installed the "snow-catchers" on other roofs...where the one neighbor convinced the other that this needed doing. I wonder what kind of weight is up there? Several tons no doubt...just waiting for the right temp change.

Or...I could tell the guy that in Colorado they use dynamite to avoid avalanches.

That snow is heavy - thanks for the tips on my tent trailer. It is sitting at a good angle now - tilted downward toward the hitch. We must have a good 3 or 4 feet out there right now!

The woods are lovely dark and deep
More Than 70 Million to be Hit by Snowstorm Thursday
Got dumped with another foot of snow last night. :( It's powdery so easier to shovel but still a lot of bleeping snow. The roofs on the various buildings are going to need raking as there's easily 18-24" built up now. Not as worried about the house as it's new construction and has a high snow load for the trusses but the shed and screen house could be a problem. It's been so darn cold and not enough sun that even with metal roofs, it hasn't fallen off like it usually would. Time to dig the snow shoes out so I can get to them without getting buried in the snow. At least (so far--knocking on every piece of wood I can find) we haven't lost our power so far in spite of a lot of trees being loaded down with ice and hanging over power lines. Giving our thanks of gratitude about that as a LOT of people in Maine are still without power after more than a week. If this is any indication, this is going to be a very long winter. :dread:

"Snow showers in the area are few and far between." Heh! From the Weather Channel on-line. Who writes those things? Cold. We're a notch below zero...-2/F...about -20 on the Celsius scale. Figure to get up on the garage roof today and take some of that snow off and then I should be okay until mid-January, depending on how much more snow falls. Keweenaw County has @140" and we're still below a hundred. Put on my new flannel shirt...almost afraid to wear it as it will get wrecked in no time. Put a new belt (augur/impeller) on one of the snowblowers yesterday...but while I was doing that I discovered a spring all bent out-of-shape in the chassis...schematic isn't much help...but I don't think the spring is overly critical, although this blower seems to have lost its oomph. Just getting light here about 8 am e.s.t. Be nice to see the sun sometime soon. Peeked out a day or two ago and that was it.
