I guess I forgot what it was like in Ontario, having lived out here for so many years now.

Out here it is a 'dry cold' whereas where you are it is more humid or wet due to the influence of Lake Ontario (I guess you are in southern Ontario?)

I lived there for the first 33 years of my life. Out here even though it is - 32 degrees C which is about - 26 degrees F today, it is not quite as bad. I remember that cold in Ontario used to feel like it penetrated right into your bones. We still get the awful wind chill of course, plus we have had SO much snow this year.

Stay safe, AnnaMarie and take care of you and yours!

I grew up two blocks from the lake. I live a bit further now, but still just a couple miles from it. I've lived in this city my entire life. I don't remember ever having an ice storm like we had before Christmas. I've never heard ice-quakes before.

This is not a normal winter. And our summers are breaking records.

Btw, they just opened the airport. Pearson has not been allowing take offs OR landings because of the cold. (No rain, no snow, no fog....just cold.). I don't think this has ever happened here either.

Even Costco has been limiting how much road salt people could buy. Stores have sold out. Not that it"s helping today.

I just hope we don't lose power again.

We were using a cell phone to check news every couple hours because the radio we found had no batteries, and required big huge ones we didn't have. Then, when power returned we did go looking for a small battery powered radio, which stores are all sold out. It suddenly dawned on me, we have a clock radio that can run on batteries.

We do need to replenish batteries and candles.

Today is 13 F. The wind chill is negative something. It's damn cold. Stay safe everyone.
Of course new puppy has discovered scratching and whining at the door and has been doing so every time she is bored. :( I have to keep training her - the cold is dangerous and she just wants to chew on a tree.

I keep thinking about that movie, "The Day After Tomorrow"

Ran to Houghton to get an igniter for the boiler...local hardware store didn't have the one I need. Figured with two snowblowers breaking last week, I'm due for strike three and the igniter (a kind of electric match) has gone before and it never happens when you do not need heat. So...maybe we're ready. Truck was registering negative numbers there and back, almost white-out conditions at times, little traffic on the road. There's food and beverages in the fridge, gas for the blower, and that roof up in Oneco can wait until this blizzard is over. Local paper has us right at a hundred inches for the year. The snow banks on either side of the driveway are taller than the ladder-rack of my pickup...the one must be close to ten feet although I'm not going to measure it.

It's dropped 6 degrees here in the last 2 hours. Reading about 12 on the thermometer but wind chill is -2 and wind advisory in place. Had to go out earlier for work errands and had a heck of a time on the interstate with the car being buffeted around. Wasn't that much fun having to get out of the car once I got to my destination either and pulling the car door closed again was a challenge. :(

Stay as safe as possible and set up ck in calls in case you get blown away. We need our MsMod safe and warm.

Got a call from B about a half hour ago letting me know we'd lost power at home. Hoping they'll get it back on soon but we've been lucky we've gone this long without losing it. Have been checking back with the store a couple times a week since the first ice storm but they still don't have more of the generators in. :(

I see Ms. Mod mention the car door. We had rain (believe it or not) for a while yesterday and by this morning it was 2F out. The moisture froze the doors shut on our cars. I almost had kittens before I was able to open them and start the damn things up. It's a balmy 8F out now.

My car desperately needs to be washed because there's so much grime on it from the sand on the roads but am afraid to go through a car wash for that very reason. Had meant to leave it outside yesterday while it was raining so hard but completely forgot so it stayed in the garage all day while I missed my opportunity for a free wash while the temps were in the 40s. :(
