We had someone wipe out our mailbox. They came to the door and I did not recognize them.So needless to say did not answer. It was at a time we had a shooting in our neighborhood. Yup needless to say I put the damn thing up myself.
There is only one spot where I can put the mailbox up. I discovered the prior property owners chose to cement the mailboxes in each time it happened. There must have been 5 cemented holes I found the first time I tried to find a place to put the mailbox up at. I had to dig one out in frozen ground, in 10 degree winter temps, and it took forever.

I'm shocked DiO even gets mail...............
One time in the middle of winter I got my mailbox taken out on a Sunday evening. The temps were going to be in the single digits all week and I knew I couldn’t tackle it until the following weekend. I called the Post Office up on Monday to ask them to hold my mail there for the week. They said I would need to come into the Post Office myself, fill out a form, and it would take several days to process the order. I said there is no need for that, and since I have no mailbox at the current time, please have your postal delivery person just walk the mail to my front door and put it between the doors. They came back and said we’ll stop the mail and hold it immediately.

Do you have to give them a pint of blood and buy a book of stamps to get them to hold your mail while on vacation?

The first time I went on vacation after I moved in I went through all the paperwork, and in time, to stop the mail for the week. They forgot to stop the mail. The postman just kept shoving it in the box. Unfortunately the mailbox opens from both ends and whey he delivered it, he just kept shoving it in and the prior days mail would fall out the other side. Needless to say I had to contact all the places that sent me bills (that I couldn't find in the bushes) in order to try and figure out what needed to be paid. I now have a neighbor or family member get my mail when we're away.

DiO'Bolic -- what are your fence laws where you reside? The mailbox thing happens all the time here. From summer teens and flying watermelons, to baseball bats, to tipsy drivers. Most of us have cement square post upon which the mail box sits. The man on the corner now has a beautiful brick wall fence. The other corner a cement wall fence. Next corner a black iron fence, and finally - the one corner hit most- ---- telephone pole fence.

I cannot put up anything permanent like a fence or trees less than 10 feet (the amount the government says they are allowed to use for signs and such), plus another 5 feet (per local ordinance) from the road. It would do me little good. I’m thinking of starting a mailbox shop from my garage. I’ll sell and install them on weekends in the area. I’ll just need to get myself one of those gas operated post-hole diggers. I’d probably make a killing.

Once again someone lost control and took out my mailbox last night, and dug up the wet lawn with their tires. It has been well over 10 times since I moved in and not once has anyone ever stopped to say what they did. Well, I know what I’ll be doing over the weekend. Do they make exploding mailboxes?
happened to my brother in law. Every weekend, his mailbox would get plowed over. There was a bar not too far from him and he figured it was some drunk making his way home. Probably the first time it was an accident, but after that, it was like a joke. Soooooo, my brother in law sunk that post in cement.

The next weekend came along and sure enough, the guy plowed into it and left pieces of his vehicle and oil and all sorts of stuff. never happened again.
