Somewhere over the rainbow
:biglove:
I'm more flattered by the honors you have all bestowed,
Than by any Spotlight... Didn't merely blush - I glowed.
But I'm feeling guilty now 'cause, in my interview
I was asked where this began, and I blamed all of you.
Said I never used to rhyme 'til joining Stephen's Board.
If real poets should descend on us - an angry horde -
It will be because of me and due to things I said...
Never learned to shut my mouth and quit while I'm ahead.

I'm happy because two ladies close to me and each other had a tiff, were estranged for a few weeks, and I chaperoned them going out last night, and we all had a great time. Back to normal again so far.
Love it - - life's too short for drama.

I'm happy today because my knee feels almost back to normal. Like all of a sudden. I'm going back to the gym Monday -hooray!

I found out the German exchange student we are hosting has told her friends that she really lucked out with her host family, and couldn’t be any more happier in her American experience so far. She skyped her friends and family that the stories are true about Americans being crazy, but after a little while here one would understand why. And with every passing day she is becoming more crazy herself, as America is very addicting.

She saw the extensive collection of Stephen King novels on our bookshelf and now wants to start reading King in English. And we’re going to start a Stephen King movie night once a week, but I can’t decide which one to start with.

I'm happy for my daughter Addie, who can now ride her bike completely unassisted! (Stopping the bike, well that's another matter...) Best of all, this has inspired Jillian to get back on her bike and try!

Congrats Addie! Has Jillian ever tried Addie's bike? If Jillian's bike is larger maybe the smaller bike would provide more confidence?

Being 15, I was kinda leaning towards Stand By Me, as it is an excellent and compelling story. and a well done movie... and has that classic look of what people might view American kids back in that time. Then go to a more horror type movie next. The Green Mile would be good, but I don't know if I've got that on DVD.

My kids (not LilMan, of course) like Pet Semetery, Maximum Overdrive, IT, Carrie (the original)--mainly anything that deals with their age group or younger--best, and gross ones as well. Quality isn't a big thing for teens, usually (lol).

The original Carrie is a great choice. I have it on VHS but no longer have a VCR player that works, and don't think I have it on DVD. I wonder if Netflix offers it?

She sounds cool! You are doing a great job and it's awesome that you're a host family! My wife's family hosted a Japanese exchange student in the 80's and they still keep in touch!

I am so happy for you and Addie.

When my sister studied in high school, we hosted a French exchange student in the 2008. But I am not sure if my sister still keep in touch with her.

LOL. It’s been a cool experience for us too. We went out to eat last night. She doesn’t want to eat German foods because she can get that at home. She wants to try all American type foods, but sure isn’t afraid to let it be know if something doesn’t appeal to her. She’s never had turkey before, so she ordered a Thanksgiving type meal with turkey, filling, rice, salad and vegetables that she’s never tried before. Some she liked, some she didn’t. But the cranberry sauce had her completely stumped by its jelly look. She wondered if she should put in on top of some other part of the meal. I said "no, you eat it by itself." She didn’t care for it, and thought it was odd served cold. And wondered who would have though up the idea to have it with Turkey and filling in the first place, because it didn’t make any sense to her... and why in the world would we Americans make it a "tradition." "That's Crazy!"

I usually feel out of place here because I prefer mayonnaise on my french fries but in Germany it wasn't a big deal. At least one of Steve's editors we traveled with always eats his that way and when we went to a food stand near Checkpoint Charlie (the currywurst was fantastic!), they had a bottle of it along with the ketchup out for people to use for the fries. =D

Do you like coleslaw? If so, you might try cole slaw dressing on french fries-- only way my daughter will eat them.
